I need some help as I can’t decide what to do. We like to have the music playing while a skier is out, but then when the skier falls it’s too loud and causes problems with the pickup process.
I have no plans to upgrade the Clarion head unit from the M502 and I currently use an old IPhone with Bluetooth to play the music, which means in order to pause/mute the music we have to find the phone and fiddle with it all while trying to pickup a down skier.

idea 1: install a clarion mw1 into the helm which would give me all the control I would need. Cost $230 that’s the negative.

idea 2: install a ram mount to the windshield so the iPhone is always within reach to be able to pause the music. Cost $80

hopefully some of you have tried both methods or tried the phone in a holder and it still didn’t work and you can share some advice with me?

Any help is appreciated,

In that situation, I tried the phone mount (already have teh setup you have pictured there), and it was tedious to always ahve to swipe/navigate/etc on the phone while doing something else. I put a remote at the helm and love it. One of my favorite mods.

I have a feeling it is the right decision to do the wired remote....just a big $ pill to swallow.

It's worth it. I love my remote.

Hoping to add a second to mine here soon

I just was told about an app for your phone called Swift Volume that uses your GPS speed to control the volume output. If you are an Apple guy I had many people recommend to me Volumatic is another great app, but it's not available for Android. Of course this only works if you are using your phone as the audio source. I was also told you will probably want to keep your phone plugged in while using these apps because using the GPS like it does drains the batt quickly.

There is also a module you can add to your clarion stereo called Boost Box that plugs into the remote connection of the stereo to do the same thing for $198. I would rather have the module for mine, but for now i am going the cheap method with the free app.

Looks great. I think you'll like the upgrade!
It works great. I just need to convince my 4 year old daughter to stop taking the phone out of the glovebox and changing the song. At least now I can fix whatever she touches :)

Here’s what I did. I took a weather tech phone holder and drilled a little hole where the aux cord would go. This was pre-dongle days though when there was a separate aux cord hole, so probably wouldn’t even need to drill anything these days.
