Hi all,

The boat has been decent for all these years, very reliable.. my biggest complaints are the inability to drive in a strait line at low speeds (without contact correcting) and the ridiculously rough ride in even the lightest chop.

My question to those with a 275 model, is there any improvement in these areas? Especially the driving strait thing, for god's sake, I just want to not look drunk at no-wake speed. lol. This is the main thing I miss about outboard and seen drive.

Thanks all!

I can’t soeak to how the 275 drives but recommend that you add cobra jet fins and fangs to your 242 before deciding to upgrade to a 275. Find and fangs will cost under $1k whereas a 275 will be around $100k at least new.

Thanks, yeah, I had them installed before it ever hit the water back in 2010... it' an improvement, but still a PIA to drive slow compared to the alternate.

I hear you. I think Yamaha started putting articulating keels on their boats around 2015. Other less expensive alternatives to a new or used 275 should be a new or used 240 (after 2014) or 250.

Sounds like you need an Everglades, Grady White or Boston Whaler…one of those should give you the cushy ride and have that outboard go straightness at slow speed thing.

I think the articulating keel is more for turns at speed to keep the boat from spinning during hard turns.

Id suggest one of the 25’ FSH models but you would still have to contend with jet drive at low speed, but, the 25’ FSH models do have a hull intended for off shore use, and owners here on this site report a great ride in bigger water.
