Crazy thought on engine swap

Has anyone ever looked into an engine swap for the 210 FSH line? Just wondering if there is something out there with more power potential that would bolt in vs. the anemic little TR1s. I love the boat, but dream of A LOT more go when I want to. Don't know the engine designation, but the twin 250s would be pretty sweet ... and PRICEY.

If I am not mistaken the 210 series come with TR1 engines as base and the 1.8 HO. I cannot imagine the hull is different for the two versions. Which is my opinion it will make a rather straight forward swap process.
that being said, I will probably never doing it if I were you. If you need speed go drop $15k on a FX turbo

That deep in financially has me wondering if the 275 engines or the like could be bolted in without modifying the hull. I’m admittedly clueless to what those engines even are, and can guarantee they probably cost more than the FSH. On the flip side I can’t see Yamaha going too crazy changing their bolt spacing for similar size engines. That would make it easy to mix and match pumps to power plants for whatever application.

At this point this is an obvious exercise in speculation. However, such has been the genesis of some of the greatest swaps of all time.

No one has mentioned the potential Lim fact of pump output. More engine power may not equate equal output. Just a thought for your speculating adventure! Some one correct me if I’m off on my thinking here...

I think this will be the limiting factor here. Even a very aggressive repitch will most likely see significant caviation with high power/torque applications. I'm sure you could throw a turbo on a 1.8L with a custom bottom end and standalone engine management and make LOTS of power that would bolt into the factory mounting locations.......I'm not sure how well you could get that power transferred to the water on a 155mm pump alone.

Roughly the equivalent of running a Corvette on Prius tires.

Even if the "bolt holes" line up (or custom mounts made), I've learned from the ski forums that even engines of the same line (different trims/plumbing) have different OALs.

Not really......It will still move the same amount of water. The amount of water moved is a directly related to the pitch of the blades, and the speed it turns. To move more water (to create more thrust) you have to increase one or the other. More rotational speed is the easiest, you just rev higher. More pitch will require more torque at a given speed. At some point you will literally run out of pitch and overpower the water, creating cavitation, and other pumping losses. The way to get around that is to add surface area to the blades for more "traction". Essentially making larger screws to hold the hydraulic forces. This is seen in the supercharged boats and the move to the 160mm pump from the 155mm pump. More surface area allows better transfer of power from the engine to the water. This is also evidenced with the 240 guys getting excellent results from the 190 impellers. The diameter didn't change in that case, but the larger surface area of the blades (they're slightly longer) allows better power transfer and less cavitation.

I'm not sure, as a boating community, that anyone has really leaned on the 155mm pump in terms of power and aggressive pitching. We've found that some things from the ski world transfer (like the L13 cones), and some don't (like polished blades, and super aggressive pitching). @SamCF has the fastest boat here that I'm aware of, and probably the most power mods as well. I would read through his threads and see what he's come up with.

As for compatibility between pumps simply look up the part numbers for the various boat models parts list and see if they are the same.

Well indy car engines have dry sumps and turn 12k to 15k rpm full duty cycle. Fuel barge not included.

Cavitation should not be much of an issue at top speed but rather only at high rpm and slow speed.

If top speed is really the goal just buy an old go fast boat and petroleum stocks.

This is an exercise in contemplating "more", and "simple more". I don't know that there is a particular goal other than the good old American Hot Rod affliction. However, having been a mechanic for as many decades as I have, it's also nice to know where you can snag spare parts at a moment notice. Hence the reason for looking for something that "fits". I mean it would not be incredibly hard to go completely custom and do something crazy like drop something in there un-Yamaha, but that's not whats in my head.

The engines in the 275 are the 1.8L SVHO I'm not sure the compatibility as fast as bolting one in. We do know that the 21ft models come factory with 2 engine options depending on the trim level. Twin TR-1's in the 210 models and twin 1.8L HO in the 212 models. I can't speak to how the 210FSH compares...? So, upgrading to the 1.8L HO might be more directly swappable?

The SVHO on the overhand might prove more challenging in its application. The 2 models that are currently supporting them are the 195 models and the 275. The main difference with the application in those models is the larger pump diameter. The HO sport the 155mm diameter pump and the SVHO models are running a 160mm pump (I think). Obviously a higher volume pump is going to capitalize in the extra HP. I do recall there was post on here somewhere from Island Racing where they talked about having done up a boat with superchargers or something...? I took a screenshot... I'm not sure if I've stil got it. I think it'd be pretty rad to see someone go balls out like that.
