Anyone else have issues with the hand knob retainer bolts cross threading? I had a friend cross thread the starboard side this weekend... I just finished cleaning up the threads with a "thread saver" tap and die and then immediately cross threaded the port side myself! One single thread is all it took and the knob was nearly impossible to remove. This one cannot be fixed as easily.

Sorry to hear this. I keep my threads well lubed Stainless is easy to gall and ruin threads on.
Chasing it with a clean tap is the right first step, If memory serves its a threaded insert inside the aluminum frame now....

if its beyond repair you may be able to install a HELICOIL which would reduce it by a diameter, and you'd need to make a different bolting solution.

Finally got the second side repaired but not before gouging up the plastic knob and a small spot of the rubber overmold real nice like. I wouldn't expect galling issues on a three week old product. The threads felt janky from day one, but it didn't cross my mind that I should lube them and the dealer certainly didn't do it or recommend it. As a mechanical/automotive engineer I can assure you that if that system was properly designed it would be 100% incapable of being cross threaded and it's not that difficult or expensive to accomplish.

Previous owner had issues with losing the hand knobs. He had replaced them with a bolt and kept a socket wrench handy.

I quickly stripped out one side... mine are aluminum. Considered a helicoil, but instead drilled through the back and now through bolt it with a nut on the inside. No more worries.
