Got some factory DB651 speakers from a board member the other day for shipping. Picked up 4 grills from eBay this week for $20.

When I try to put them together, they don't fit. The grill doesn't fit over the integral tweeter.

Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong here?

Heres the two pieces together.

Here's the gap.

Do the tweeters "pop off" somehow? Did I get the wrong grills? Are the speakers a "rear mount" and the grills a "front mount"?. What am I doing wrong here?

The online manual shows the grill is put on over the top of the tweeter and screwed down...no mention of removing the tweeter which makes sense as I wouldn't think they're removable. Perhaps someone here has actually removed the grills from their boat and can comment...

The more I look at these, the more I think I have the wrong grills.

Bolt pattern looks small on the grill as compared to the speaker.

Looks like the right grill to me. Haven't had mine off in a while, but I think they snap on a bit. Give it a good push?

If I remember correctly, I believe those tweeters pivot/swivel slightly. The grills center should be slightly larger than the tweeter leaving enough room for the tweeter to pivot some.

More details....appears I have 2 different style grills. They look SOOOO similar I didn't notice on first inspection.

Top two are different from bottom two in this pic. Top two don't fit, bottom two fit perfectly.

Here's one of the bottom ones fitted to the DB651.

Guess I'll have to roll the dice again on more eBay grills. At this rate I'm going to have more into the cheap upgrade than just buying two sets outright.

Are your grills slightly different color? One possibility (I do not know, I no longer have boat so cannot measure anything): The db651 was once mainly silver toned and then, without warning, they changed to gold toned color scheme. If you have two different colors, there may be slightly different manufacturing specs for each.

Ah that explains it.
