Sad situation on the Colorado River this past weekend. A 20 yr old man jumped off the railraod bridge at Topock - where the I40 crosses the river. It happens a lot. Typically not a very big deal.
This, however, was heartbreaking for those involved.
He didn't look before he lept and ended up hitting the bow of a ski boat passing underneath.

There was a young lady sitting in the open bow and she suffered terrible injuries. He was airlifted to a hospital in Vegas, probably paralyzed.

That's horrible, I cringed watching that video. Years ago when I worked in Phoenix, a guy jumped off a 30+story building that was next to our office building to commit suicide, it was not a pretty scene below.

Wow, that sounds like something out of a bad dream.

This guy was one of several - just thrill seekers, not expecting this to happen. They have a rope off to the side that my kids have swung off of many times....but certainly not 80 feet up. More like 8 from the bottom of the rope swing.

I have seen people swinging on that rope.

That is horrible. There is a bridge by our house that Navy Seal Adam Brown enjoyed jumping off of. It has become common to find that people who have read about his life jumping off of the bridge. Fortunately it is a low traffic area but accidents certainly are a concerning possibility.

Guys it's loads of fun to jump in...just remember to check the water depth first. No suicide jumps (head first) into blind water. Been to that call....that kid still can't walk.

Just be careful!

July 4 2 kids in the Dania Cut-off canal jumped right in front of us as we are in a narrow, one boat at a time, strong current bridge. Right as our bow clears the bridge another kid jumps and lands 3 feet starboard of us. Scared the crap out of my kids who were sleeping in the bow. Just not a good idea.

We had someone jump off a local bridge but he was not over the water hit the ground. Now we have signs saying no jumping from bridge. I'm sure that will stop teenagers from jum
