Dull rub rail 195

Hi Guys. My rub rail (the black Plastic part behind the chrome) looks dull and faded after a year.
Any suggestions?
Also the gel coat (black) looks faded too even with rubbing compound.

Youtube... LOL.. Several good videos on there about the proper way to buff Gelcoat. I recently buffed my 242 (Black) back to a new showroom shine. 3M Gelcoat polish works really well with a good variable speed buffer (about 1500-1800 RPM) with a wool pad. Just takes some patients and elbow grease. Hit the rub rail with some acetone and wipe immediately with a clean rag right behind it. This should remove the chalking in the rub rail. Be mindful of the acetone as it will eat the rubber. After cleaning the rails, just hit the rails with a little polish and wax the entire boat (rails too) with a good 100% polymer Wax. It will serve you well to wax the boat really good at least twice a year.

and my gel coat (top section below windows) is flat and tried everything. I restore it and two weeks later DULL!
