So I am sitting here in my chair sunday morning reading post on the forum and a thought occurs to me.... why do jet boat manufactors not install tilting nozzles on the boats like on the skis?. I had a 1996 seadoo ski that had a thumb button where I could adjust the nozzle thrust up and down. Now I know it would not be as dramatic an effect on a jet boat but it seems like it would give some degree of control over the bow.. what does the wisdom of the forum say.

2nd question.... why are oranges orange????? Humm...

Oooohhh....Thought provoking 2nd question. In that same case, shouldn't grapes be called "purples" and bananas "yellows", and apples "reds"? I'm going to start a new trend at my house. "Hey babe, do you mind bringing me a yellow from the kitchen?" :D

Hey... we do that with koolaid!

This is waaaay to deep for me. . .

Don't even get me started on grapefruit...

This is just a guess and not a proven answer but I can speak from experience on skis. The old skis were much lighter and the trim do have an effect but on the newer heaver skis that do have this trim feature it does very little to effect anything it almost not noticeable so I'm assuming on an even heavier boat it would have even less effect if any at all.

Could something like that be used to push the jet wash under the wave for surfing. . . . ?

That is a great question I'm sure one of the surfers may chime in on that but it sounds like it could.

Trimming the jets down sufficiently would provide a cleaner wake and push the bow down creating a longer pocket. Sufficient trim of the jets would be a huge step forward for water sports and I believe it would have a similar effect to my trim tabs in rough water. Trim allowing for both up and down could provide optimal efficiency in smooth water.

Yes, but how much force would you need to put on the jet to trim it? Wouldn't you mess up the steering if you put the same type of steering mechanism on the opposite axis to trim sufficiently to make a difference? Just trying to think through this... That would need to be a heckuva actuator to move that electronically enough to be effective. And then, as I said, I think you jack with the steering depending upon how you are trimmed.

Right?

A similar amount of force would be needed to trim as is needed to steer and skis already have trim so it certainly is possible.

Changing the angle of the trust significantly would change the effectiveness of steering and reduce the efficiency of the jet drive but I believe that surfers who are already altering their boats with thousands of pounds of ballast would be fine with that.

I was more thinking that if you provided a similar mechanism on the other axis, when you trimmed up, it would pull the steering to the center (and when you steered to port, it would pull the trim to the center), because you are free in 2 axis. So, doable, yes. Not so sure on the easy part.

What is the trim mechanism on the smaller skis? What actually moves? The base of the jet or the diverter?

OK then, why do things that are cold get warm but if you leave hot coffee out it gets cold? hmmmm? Why do crackers get soft when then go stale yet bread gets crunchy???? bizzaro world I tell ya!

I have wondered why modern jet boats don't have adjustable trim like pwcs do for years now. If I'm not mistaken some of the older jet boats with Berkeley pumps had diverters which adjusted the trim (as seen in the seemingly adjustable rooster tails coming off of them) so why not the newer boats? I think it comes down to cost, plastic may it be strong enough and current manufacturers aren't willing to improve on a system which is "good enough" that will add to the overall cost and may hurt sales. Of course This is a total guess on my part.

I modified my steering noozles so they angle down slightly, permanently. At first I used an offset from Watcon, but they got wobbly. So I had the aluminum holes welded and drilled new holes in the Watcon positions.

Top bolt needs to be grinded or share ed down for the reverse gate to clear

Nozzle trim would be interesting and I have to assume that they've tried it at the factory on the boats, I'll have to ask the team when I see the next. My guess is if you point the nozzles down, it will clean up the jet wash, but also raise the stern reducing the wake size. If you trim the nozzles up you'd create a rooster tail that the attorneys would veto (that was a discussion I had with Yamaha about the reverse over ride on the E-Series boats....attorneys did that! Can you imagine the lawsuit from the person knocked off a dock by jet wash...(think of the cavity warnings!)
