Engine noise and shutoff

Hi all,

this is my first post since buying my Yamaha, hoping you guys can help. I took my 2013 Yamaha 242 Limited S out this weekend and the port side engine made a rattling/ grinding noise immediately upon startup and then would shut off after a couple seconds. I tried starting it a few times but same thing. I just got the annual service done in April, could this be the impeller housing gone bad?

It sounds like your wear ring is swollen. Look for high spots on the wear ring that may help to sand down. If its bad enough to turn the engine off. I would pull the pump and check the engine and than the impeller housing.
