Today while I took the boat on the lake my starboard engine after an hour running hard I got the signal of that engine showing engine over temperature don't know what that could be everything was working normal water was coming out the lines normal but it still showed engine overheating does anybody or did it happen to anyone on here what could that be shoot me back some information please.

Check the pump and impeller and make sure there is nothing in it or the grates if a bag or something gets stuck in the grate you can still have water coming out of the cooling line but it just may not be getting enough to cool the engine. I really hate to mention this last one check for the dreaded sheered oil cooler bolt if your not sure about that it would be near the oil filter you would notice the head of a bolt missing and probably oil leaking around that area slowly.

Ok I will check that in the morning it's weird after 10 minutes of cooling down I call the dealer where I just pick up the boat out in December and they told me to disconnect the battery and and put it back in 10 minutes to erase the codes I did that it ran fine to the dock but I don't want to take any chances especially I want to do the Bimini trip in June so I will be taking it out to them this week but I will check tomorrow also to make sure there's nothing in there before I take it to them thanks for the info I'll let you know what it was soon as I find out.

If that cleared it then it was most likely something in the pump and when you turned it off what ever it was came out. I had that happen to my old 2011 SX240 I was pulling into a dock the overheat warning light went off I looked at the side of the boat and water was coming from both holes. When I got the boat on the trailer I found a plastic bag in the pump. It wasn't totally killing the water supply but if was slowing it enough to throw an over heat code.

I just look into the boat there's no oil leaking around the motor around that boat missing area so tomorrow morning I go under the boat and check it out. It never happened to me before first time they did it twice.

If it happens again just before you shut the engine off try the reverse trick to make sure your pump is clear. Put the throttles in reverse to get the boat moving backwards then kill the engines then put the throttles in the forward position with the engine of this will allow water to flow back through the pump clearing anything in the grates out.

This happened to my boat once on the first season I owned it in this post Alarm. Thinking back I think I sucked something into my intake and it was partially blocking the strainer which is where all the water comes from for the cooling system. Never had it happen since. It could have been from running WOT for long periods and then shutting off not letting it cool down but since then I've done similar runs and no alarms so I'm going to say mine was because something decided to visit my jet pump. Then again I've also done mods to alleviate my heat soak and high IC temps so who knows lol.

If you look at the rear of the jet pumps, look to the left side and you'll see the strainer. Now imagine a plastic bag, weeds, beer or plastic bottle cap, clumps of leaves or whatever getting stuck there in your jet pump. It doesn't take much to cause all sorts of things to happen from cavitation, vibration to engine overheat warning messages.

I can't edit my post to add more but here is a pic from the back of a Yamaha jet pump and you can see the little white strainer in there.
