At the end of last season the port motor started to make a louder than normal sound under cruise throttle so we looked back to the dock with 1 motor. I clamped the hose to protect the motor that wasn’t running. I then only started that motor one time for about 5 seconds to take a video and blow some water out. Attached is the clip. You will notice a rattling sound at the end. Almost as though something broke and is maybe in the exhaust? Any ideas would be appreciated as our local dealers are all 2 months behind on work due to covid. Also if anyone is within a 4 hour trip of Nashville or Knoxville Tennessee or anywhere between that has experience on these motors and would like to be paid to fix it, please let me know. Just looking for any advice on whether this is something basic or am I looking at a rebuild/refurbished motor?

Thanks for any help.
Michael

Sorry I can’t help you but one of my engines sounds exactly the same, I have not been able to figure it out yet and honestly won’t be working on the boat until after we make our move to Florida. I will be following this thread to see how you make out.

Take the spark plugs out, and crank it, see if there are any strange noises when it’s just the starter turning it, and no compression. Then check compression. Almost sort of sounds like she’s running on three cylinders, but it’s super hard to get a good grasp of the noises, rattles, and such via video. But that would certainly be my next step.
