What’s up team. I Need assistance

2012, 242 limited S

Week 1 —starboard engine would crank, crank, crank and would not start. Took it home and Let it sit for a week. Added gas and Put new spark plugs on both engines and the engine fired right up.

Week 2 —both engines running perfect no issues. Top speed 53mph. Sweet!!

Week 3–while in the water port side engine encountered same situation as week 1- would crank, and would not start. I Let it sit 30 minutes and fired back up. Made it to the dock no issues while full throttle. For several weeks This has been happening between both engines back and fourth.

Currently both engines are firing up and running fine. But yesterday had the same issues on both engines. First the port then 2 hours later the starboard side. Again let them sit for 30 minutes and fired up.

Figured it was bad fuel pump at first but it’s hard to believe both have gone bad at the same time. Could it possibly be something in the tank shifting from side to side blocking the lines. Removing fuel pump and looking in the tank tomorrow !

Any suggestions

There must be a way to check the fuel pressure. I'd do that first.

Joined just to co-sign this(been lurking since I started boat shopping a year ago). While not apples to apples I had this same problem a couple years back with my STI, the fuel pressure/circulation regulator on the fuel rail was stuck, literally took me three fuel pumps before I figured out the issue.

The lanyard switch and hatch switches are notorious for failing.may be worthwhile to test those out.

All of my mechanical experience comes from car engines. You could have someone tap on the fuel pump with a small hammer or something while you are cranking it. If the pump is going bad it is usually enough to move a little fuel through the line. If it starts when you are taping then dies, odds are it’s a fuel pump

My automotive experience seconds that. I'm assuming the fuel pump(s) on our boats are in the tank. That makes our theory somewhat difficult.

IIRC they are in the tank, but in the top rather than at the bottom so accessible once the hatch is removed.
