ever had laughing gas or sedation at the dentist ___?

Yes. Gas for fillings and valium drip for wisdom teeth. Lidocane in addition for both.

anyone who's tried both laughing gas and IV sedation could compare the two? I've only done laughing gas and it took the edge off, but I still felt anxious. Thinking of getting IV next time and wondering how much more “out” you really are with it, and if recovery feels any different afterward.

This is near and dear to my heart. I'm a 6'5" 295 total pu*&y when it comes to the Dentist. I swear I think I have dental PTSD from Navy Dentists. I had 2 wisdom teeth pulled with very little novocaine then a few weeks later had another 2 wisdom teeth pulled with very little novocaine. Totally awake for both, and one of the teeth had to be sawed into 4 quadrants and picked out with a pick. The other one was in there so deep the Dentists literally had me in a head lock trying to pull it out, and remember him saying to the dental tech under his breath, "I'm worried I'm going to dislocate his jaw"

Soooo....my anxiety is redlined on any major dental work. I even get anxious just for cleanings. So the last time I had to have a tooth pulled I told the dentist I want to be knocked out. No freakin way I want to be present for that. He said, "I can give you gas and numb you up really well, it'll take longer for the novocaine to work than it will be to pull the tooth". Nope, I say, knock my ass out. He said it'll probably be $600 more for the IV, and I'm like, that is totally worth it to me if I don't have to be there.

So I went to an oral surgeon to have it pulled. Most dentists don't or can't run an IV, at least one can't. You not really fully under like you would be for a surgery, it's more of a twilight, but you basically are asleep and aren't there for it. It's wonderful. It's like a time warp. You sit down in a chair, get sleepy and fall out, then wake up and you don't have the bad tooth anymore. Well worth the $600 bucks in my opinion.

I just had deadening to do root canal and pull cracked molar. My little dentist dude was on top of me pulling with all his might to get the molar out. I never felt a thing on either one of them.

ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY!!!! I had to get two uppper molars pulled this last March.. second from the back on both sides.. the first one became a toothache when I was down at lake Mohave… two day drive home with arguably one of the three most painful things I’ve had in my life, the other two being breaking my back in three places, and the other when I broke six ribs, dislocated by jaw, almost bit the end of my tongue off and severely chipped one of my upper incisors.. fuck that hurt. But! This toothache was incredible.. then after week after getting the first one pulled the second one had to be pulled, and it shattered, so the oral surgeon had to dig around in the roof of my mouth to get it out.. that time I needed the oxycodone..

So! I say knock me the F out… its like being a kid on a road trip with your folks, you fall asleep in the car and wake up and you’re there.. my only regret was totally hitting on one of the gals up front on my way out, LOUDLY… I asked my friend why didn’t you shut me up? He said, Oh no, you were wayyyyy to entertaining.. Jesus I was embarrassed later.. totally worth the $500 bucks…
