We (family) have been doing more boat cruising and riding around, and I am getting tired of the exhaust noise again. I have done extensive sound deadening on my boat, can be found in previous threads.

(guessing) Maybe all my insulation is moist and is not sound deadening as much or as well anymore.

The other day riding down the river I confirmed it is the actual exhaust when it exits the boat making noise. Does not get loudest until you are on the swim deck and almost hanging off the back of the boat. The sound travels and makes taking while driving difficult is my basic complaint.

1st Idea
??? Thinking about removing the water box and adding some more internal baffles this winter, thinking this would reduce the exhaust note????

Concerns are performance and possibly ruining the waterbox. (anybody have a used waterbox?)
I have no idea what the internals look like (not scared to cut open and have someone help me weld it shut)

2nd IDEA???
I also thought of trying to turn the exhaust exits down but there is very little room between the exhaust exit and the hull. In the past I always thought about fitting a full 90, but now I am thinking maybe just an angled exhaust deflector. (simpler solution)

3rd IDEA??
Add more water to absorb noise inside water box.
1. Larger water feed main hole
2. maybe a 2nd water feed.
3. Or, a little pump to boost water pressure into exhaust on switch, turn it on when needed, leave it off for normal boat running, would avoid flooding out the exhaust when idling around.

Just thinking about ideas.

I’ve been looking and thinking about how to do option 2 for a while. The pipes that turn down into the water on surf boats are supposed to make them a lot quieter. It would need to be a really narrow/flat 90 to fit.

I’d be nervous about modifying the water box or trying to put more water in than Yamaha intended.
