Hey guys,
I need something like this...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00537ESCQ/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_10?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

not sure if its strong enough. i do plan on cutting it off at 24" so that should give me 800lb tongue weight.
I have a 2500 HD, with a Class V 2.5 inch receiver.
I have had a heck of a time locating, just a 2.5inch square peice that will let me extend the hitch 18-24 inches or so.
My old searay was much further back, i travel with a golf cart, in the bed, tailgate down, and need to pull the boat as well.

It should be fun, loading the golf cart, then backing up to hook up the boat, with the tailgate down. This summer will be the first time we actually do it, its all be "in theory" so far.

I have plenty of space between the tailgate and the hitchball... in theory, but i am a little concerned about tight turns with the back of the golf cart hanging back, wouldnt want it to hit the boat since its so high.

i even think that 18 inches would be good, i could just drill new holes for the pin, and that should bump the tongue weight up to well over 800 lbs.

There is a very shallow ramp in my neighborhood. I tried an 18" or 24" extension to reduce how far I had to back in. At the time I was towing a 2,150 pound LX210 with a Sierra Denali rated to tow 9,800 pounds. The hitch extension was awkard and wobbly. I installed it once but did not have the confidence to try driving the 1/4 mile to the ramp.

So there is no way that I would consider towing down the highway with it. I believe your trailer will have a folding tongue. I would get a second folding tongue hinge and a stronger section of steel tubing than the factory tongue and build an extension where the tongue hinges. The greatest load will be at the midpoint of the tongue. I believe that is where the extension would be installed so upsizing the extension should handle the load. Adding the extension at the hinge would make it bolt-on. You would be able to install or remove it with four bolts.

I run a 24" extended hitch and then welded a bike rack onto it to we can take the bikes and boat camping. Have been using it for years. Cam.

I use an 18" extension to haul a 20 ft enclosed work trailer. I have never had a problem in 13 years.

I know I am way late but do you have a picture of your rig? I am trying to figure out how to tow my ar240 with a camper on the back of my truck. Any helps is appreciated.
