This coming Saturday we are hosting our annual cookout at falls lake. We will be at Sandling Beach shelter number 6. It starts at approximately 1 o clock and will go until everyone leaves. Any of my jetboaters.net family who happens to be on the lake that day is welcome also. We normally have more food than we can handle. Julian has stopped by and been feed a few times. The vast majority of the people who come are either law enforcement or former law enforcement and their families so it is going to be kid friendly. All are welcome!

He cooks up a FEAST!!!! I've been lucky to be fed on two occasions!

Dang. Another miss on my part. I am taking my girls to their football game for cheerleading.

Enjoy!

@bronze_10 North Carolina question.....does the humidity mellow out in the fall?? Just the summer months?? And how's the Raleigh area for boating and living??

Oh yes the humidity falls off pretty quick in the fall... either that or we are all so tired of walking around in it all summer that any drop is noticable.

I was born and raised in north carolina.. raised in the farm country between raleigh and the beach.... raleigh has a lot of traffic but it may not be anything like some other cities... here u r 2 hours from the beach and 2 hours from the mountains.... the raleigh / durham area has prob 10 to 12 different lakes with in a short drive... kerr lake is our favorite.. u thinking of moving here?

Looking at less rainy locations when our daughter graduates in a couple of years. I don't know if the humidity will make me melt....the northwest is not normally humid during the summers. On the other hand...the water temp barely went above 72 all year! @bronze_10

As the saying goes @bobbie . Come on in the waters fine! :winkingthumbsup"

@bronze_10 is right. Belews is my local lake. And in the summer I have seen temps of 103 degrees

I'll hopefully be joining you guys is a year or three as well! I'm considering the Falls/Kerr/Gaston areas to settle when I "pull the pin". Wife would like to be closer to the beach (Myrtle), but situations like Harvey and Irma are making her afraid and it would rule out lake boating. :( Towns around Gaston look a little too rural for her, but I like the idea of something waterfront with a dock/lift. Would love to hook up with you guys so, keep it going!!!

Get uo with one of us when u are closer to making the move and mayne one of us can take you guys on the lakes around here... in the raleigh area falls lake and jordon lake do not allow development... kerr and gaston do..

I like the Raleigh/Durham area (+boating), but the wife's a beach bunny, and it's putting us 3 hours from the waves. Don't know if that's gonna fly. Tough choice, but I KNOW I gotta' get out of NJ!!!

I strongly considered the greater Raleigh area when looking to move. Lots to offer. The population and economic explosion are a couple of the things that detered me.

Enjoy the cookout.

@Billtex2000 when i retire i can assure you we will not be in this area for the same reasons @Mainah stated. We will be down east somewhere so when we boat we turn around because we want to... not because we ran out of water like lake boating.

@Mainah a buddy at work was just talking up Lake Murray to me the other day! Saying how beautiful that area is. I'm guessing that Columbia is your "city center", or Lexington? We were also thinking about about the Conway, SC area...a little inland from the coast.

Columbia is the metropolis. The Irmo/Chapin (north side) of the lake is what I choose. Lexington is the other side of the lake and has planes flying over on the east side being closer to the airport. That said a good portion of Chapin can hear the cargo train as it whistles through 3 times a day. Chapin has a small town feel with fabulous schools so that is where I ended up. Only regret I have is not starting the in person house shopping much sooner. Plently of new developments with great price points per square foot to choose from but large turnkey pre owned homes in my budget were far fewer. Hindsight being I wish we had bought land and built custom (in Chapin). Not familiar with Conway yet.

We traveled to different locations in the Southeast for 2 years and all of them had something to offer. Chapin just felt more like what we wanted. The only one that got a hard axe for us after visiting for a week was Atlanta. I encourage anyone looking to relocate of their own accord spend time traveling to find what suits you best. Chapin was not on our list until @Andy S suggested we check it out so who knows what someone else may find just by traveling and talking to others.

Sorry for the thread hijack. Hope to get up to Falls Lake sometime next year.
