My wife and I were talking the other day about getting a first aid kit on the boat... we have a small kit on there now but being in law enforcement I want more of a trama kit... anyone worked this out yet? I can find order them on line all day long but I wanted to see what everyone else has..

I custom made mine. Got an orange plastic ammo box from Academy. Got a basic first aid kit (one I had around the house--band aides, swabs, etc.). Added a portable splint, severe bleeding pack (the clotting kind), a bunch of 4x4's, tape and a triangle bandage. In the glove box I stock the anti-nausea stuff: ginger gum, Dramamine, one of those wrist band things.

We have backpacks I put together for worst case scenario purposes such as natural disasters, etc. that we keep in our vehicles, we take them on the boat as well. Everything you need from shelter, sleeping bag, fire, self defense items, flash lights, Gps, food, water, sanitary items, etc. it's pretty extensive. Inside we have IFAK Kits as well as the Basic First Aid Kit linked below.

We keep an Adventure Medical .9 kit in each of our vehicles and in the boat. I have added quik-clot and a snake bite kit to them. They are water tight which is great for our usage. I take the kit out of my truck to add to the boat when we go to Bimini or camping. They cover our potential needs well and I was lucky that I ordered near expiration kits directly from Adventure Medical and they provided duplicates of everything that was expiring so we ended up with double the meds. http://www.adventuremedicalkits.com/ultralight-watertight-9.html

....just rub some dirt on it and walk it off....

I started off with one of those Johnson & Johnson First Aid Kits from Wal-Mart. At the same time I built my own to deal with more of a traumatic injury. Bought a few things from a LEO Supply Company and also got some stuff from one of the paramedics I know.

Forgot to add a roll or 2 of both Electrical tape and duct tape to stop the bleeding. . . .

I know u can build one but I judge any first aid kit by weather is has a tourniquet the clotting dressing to pack deep down in a wound. That's where the true life saving happens. If someone is struck by a boat prop and it hits a artery on a leg or arm.... you must be prepared. .

I just take a gun....... if it is too bad that will solve the issue. :D:D:D:D:p:p:p:p

Just kidding of course, We just have a basic kit and have to refill with band aids every year because the girls think that is a cure all. If something major happens I do not know enough to help so I stay out of the way for people that can help.

Other than a gun, as per Dr. @jcyamaharider.

This is the kit that I have. It is arguable as to whether or not you should use it. Basically I see the auction cups as something to apply on the way the hospital. Benadryl is likely to be more useful.

My Father was bit on the thumb by a water moccasin when he was in his early teens. Two older boys that were with him cut his thumb open and sucked on the wound then he ran over a mile to a neighbors house who poured "coal oil" on it. That evening his parents took him to see the community doctor who had returned from his day in the city. He was not concerned about the snake bite, he said to just give the cut time to heal.

A few years ago out at time time 50 pound huskey Snow was bitten my a water mocassin. I saw and killed the snake while I was cleaning up at the boat ramp. Snow went perhaps a quarter mile home on his own. When I came home everyone was worried that his face was swollen. I decided the snake must have bitten him and called a veterinarian who is a family friend. He told me to give Snow a Benadryl to keep his airway open and he would be fine. The next morning Snow was back to normal.

Maxi-pads. Cheaper than blood clot lists and readily available. ;) Used one out of the kit earlier in the summer when a friend opened up the bottom of his foot on a pontoon boat cleat.

I gave my kit to the guy who bought my boat with a prop. Now I just carry cork plugs for people to use after they read the warning label on the swim platform!:wideyed:

@swatski, I forgot to include the video in my snake bite kit post above. It is there now.

Speaking of snakes, I guess being bitten by one gives you the desire to eradicate them.
