It finally happened, after lots and lots of years of owning and towing all types of trailers I had my first blowout today.
I picked my camper up at storage and started home (about 4 mile drive) I made it about 200 yards down the road and I heard a big POP! I was only going about 15mph, it's a small paved road with no center line, it was my right rear tire. The tire is a TowMax radial that came original on my 2010 travel trailer I haven't looked at the tire to see when it was made. I have 1 year old Maxxis tires on the front, I should have changed all 4 at the same time:-/
We are leaving for a camping trip tomorrow evening, of course no one around here keeps Maxxis in stock, so I think I'm going to get 2 new Goodyear marathons that I can get mounted in the morning.
I may order 2 Maxxis to keep it all matched and use the marathons for spares for the camper and boat, since my current spares are older than dirt.
I'm glad I wasn't going any faster or tried to keep driving to a better place to stop before looking, even going that slow and only going 30 feet or so after the POP, it broke two fairing supports, ripped the wires off a marker light and I couldn't find the marker light cover. A Mobile RV repair truck pulled up behind me right as I was finished changing it, said he has been called out to campers with blowouts that had demolished a 6 foot radius of the side of the camper.
