Having read numerous posts and ideas on here regarding fishing rod holders i thought i would throw in my 10 pence worth and see what i could come up with, there appears to be many different approaches to the problem and some at quite high costs, I looked closely at places to fit these rod holders and the most obvious places were as follows.
1 The Wake tower
2 The grab rails
3 Swim platform table support
Having sat down and sketched a few ideas during the evenings here's what i come up with and how i approached the problem, Out here in Thailand for those who are not familiar with my posts we don't have the pleasure of going to our local chandler and obtaining an assortment of bolt on goodies so we have to make them, This may give you a few ideas and cut the cost considerably, I appreciate that some of you may not have a wake tower but rear table mounts and grab rails I'm pretty sure you do have, Ok here goes i hope you enjoy and it may spur you on to have a go.
Of to the local DIY to check out what clamps were available, Decided on these folding type get stainless if you can but if not galvanized will be ok.
Next it was down to my local fabrication shop to have a look through his scrap stainless bin to see what i could use.
Ok having located some tubing a plate etc it was time to start cutting and welding it all together.
It doesn't take long before thing's start to take shape
These are the wake tower holders nearly finished
Starting on the mounting plate for the rear table mount
Checking everything fits before final welding
Ok i think you get the general idea just needs a good polish and fitting
The rear table mount is taking shape
This is for the rear grab rail, I used square section as it rests against the grab rail when it's in position and makes a good solid mount.
Wake tower mount in position
This is the grab rail mount in position
Plenty of leg room and you can adjust the height up or down as you wish
You can see the rear grab rail i made from a previous post i was sick of that stupid original one that always breaks, the rod holder will fit on both.
All finished and you can see the results, Notice how the square section rests against the grab rail and it cant move, I'm quite pleased with the results and the total cost about 2 hours work and about $10, I'm sure there are local fabrication shops near to you so just ask them if you can have a look through there scrap bin there only to pleased as they will get more $ from you than from a scrap dealer.
