Flushing Engines - Access Plugs in or out?

Greetings all,

When flushing the engines, does it matter if the impeller access/clean out plugs are in or out?

I feel like the engines sound weird when doing the final throttling up to 4k when the water is shut off at the end of the flush when the plugs are out.

Thanks for the insight.
 
It probably does not matter, but I flush plug out (laying loose in the tube). 2 reasons: (1) I have already pulled the plug to release any retained water, rinsed with Salt Off (plug, tube, shaft and grate) and then rinsed with fresh water and (2) prevents forgetting to dismount plug for storage.

My thought process matches yours for why I usually have the plugs out when flushing. Glad to hear I am not the only one who does it that way.

Makes zero difference.

But in general you want the plugs out when the boat is out of the water.
