Yesterday I was trying to figure out where the wires come down for the wetsounds sounds bar so I had some help from @sstegh and @ar240owner and we decided to fold the tower. I was shocked to see these gas struts! Did the 2016 boats have these?

Not on the 195... hhmmmm

Whoa never seen them before! Figures though with the massive Bimini on the 242X. Since they share a similar tower base and design of the Limited modes I wonder if those also now come with gas assisted struts of if it's just a 242x thing?

That bimini structure is actually really light.

No gas struts on my 2016. I would love to add them. Pain in the butt to lower every time I put it in garage.

I need to look to see if I can take some pressure out ( some gas struts have a pressure release valve ), we had to HOLD the tower down. Very easy to get back up but still a 2 person job.

I wonder if Yamaha would sell that as an add on.

I would love to add them to my AR style tower but unfortunately the base is much smaller than the base of the Limited or X series boats. Only way I could see a gas strut working for AR style is if the strut mounted in the storage space since there isn't room between the tower and tower base.

Random interruption, folded tower height with ar tower vs the limited s tower?
Installing a new garage door this fall Lord willing!

Wow. That's a pretty cool idea. I'm so envious of you guys with the folding towers.

From Mother Yamaha's website (under 'trailer'), both are the same...
242 Limited S:
Height on Trailer 10' 7"
Height on Trailer with Tower Folded 8' 6" trailer level
Length on Trailer 25' 5"
Length on Trailer with Tongue Folded 23' 9"

AR240:
Height on Trailer 10' 7"
Height on Trailer with Tower Folded 8' 6" trailer level
Length on Trailer 25' 6"
Length on Trailer with Tongue Folded 23' 9"

From the look of that picture, the struts assist in pushing the tower down?? Surely you need assistance in pushing up?

Nope, if we let go it would go back close to the original position. I put one of my 50 lb lead ballast bags to keep it folded down while we looked.

These appear to be traction gas springs.

Interesting, my 2016 242x does not have the struts either...

2017 upgrade, probably a safety issue with the tower possibly injuring someone if it falls.
