I'm new on here and I'm trying to get a sense of what the group is like. Has anyone ever done an age or profession poll on here? I've been on forums where the average age is 65 (seriously) and others that the average age is barely over 20. Interestingly, the one where the average age is a relatively young 30 is a Cadillac forum!

If there hasn't been anything like this already on here, I'd like to put up a poll with age and maybe average income ranges too. And where are most of the members here from? It seems like the midwest is pretty well represented but I'm just guessing.

Basically I'm just wondering what type of people are into jet boats. Just curious, nothing else. BTW I'm a 55 year old Chicago born guy from California that is currently making zero dollars a year because I was a lead GM dealership tech/foreman/troubleshooter/problem solver, fire putter outer for 33 years and figured I needed a break so I quit last November. lol. My amazing wife of 34 years said since she got to stay home for 14 years and raise our two children while we lived off of my salary only, I can have 14 years now too if I want. Damn I'm lucky! And as if she didn't work her @ss off all those years. I doubt I'll take 14 years, I've already been busier with projects since I "quit" than when I was working.

Thanks, I guess I should have looked around a little first!

So it looks like 30's and 40's. I like that! I've never acted my age and I totally enjoy learning and sharing with people younger than myself. Not to put anyone in a "box", but the forum I was on with the super old average age was the biggest bunch of bitter, angry, weird and closed minded old men I've ever seen! The forum with the 30's average is still one of my favorite and most impressive forums. Young guys making enough money to buy a $75k American made family sedan and pull the engine out of it to make it go from 556hp to 1000+hp just for kicks. Definitely an interesting group! It would be like guys on here pulling the engines out of their brand new boats so they can put turbo's or blowers on them to double the power. Am I the only one on here that would do something crazy like that? haha.

Obviously modding boats is just a tad different than modding cars. You can put a couple grand into a car and make it do 10 second 1/4 mile times. You could put 10 times that amount in one of these boats and only gain a few mph top speed. And to what goal? Is going 59 vs. 55mph really gonna make the boat that much more fun or exciting? It's not like these are "racing" boats. I bought my Yamaha 212 to have fun with the family. I actually doubt that I'll go crazy with the engines. (famous last words. lol) I am going make what it is run as efficiently and as strong as possible though.

30 I have shoes older than that.

Getting into these boats, atleast in my case, isn't about horsepower or how fast it can go. It is just to relax and have fun, meet some like minded individuals, oh and load the crap out of it with as much weight as you can to produce a wave that would capsize a small fishing vessel. :D On a serious note, I have met a ton of great people from all over the United States and we get to visit each other atleast once a year. I wish it could be more.

In my mid 20's (now 37 on the 17th of this month ) I did a whole LS swamp into a Camaro with a 88mm turbo, full cage...blah blah.... that just cost tons of money with no return. Now I would much rather be at the camper or hanging out in a cove on the water with the kids , wife and some really good friends.

What are you trying to say? I'm not that freakin' old and I don't like the tone you are taking here!

Just kidding!.................I can think of a forum that matches that description!

We are trying to make this place about the members...and the boats! Open, collaborative without the drama. Occasionally we have disputes about Ford vs Chevy, Yamaha Vs Chaparral etc.... but we try to keep it on topic and informative.

There is a ton of info on here...check out the FAQ....and don't be afraid to ask questions...we don't care if its been covered before....we enjoy providing answers!

Nice! So far I'm diggin this forum!

Today I'm working on grafting a Minn Kota Deckhand anchor winch into my boat. It's going under the front of the bow and the line will come out and over the ladder to a pulley at the end. Slide the ladder out and drop the anchor! I already have the ladder and front pulley setup built. It should be cool when it's finished. I'll post pics in an actual new thread instead of derailing this one any more than I already have when it's done. haha.

Ok do I have you all beat with this one?...

I almost have a KID older than 30! (29 year old daughter and 26 year old son)

My youngest are in their 30's " twins" oldest I plead the 5th

No. LOL.
But you right about it - it is not easy to make performance mods that work (with these boats)!

Not those but I have owned many pair of whistle britches in my younger days.

29 y.o. Son/26 y.o. daughter with same ages sooo... the old guys are more abundant here than you’d think!

28 here, guess I am one of the babies of the forum lol.

I could probably go into the back of the closet and find a pair or two. 57 in December. Still spry as @McMark says, need to be walking around the snow tapping 6000 maple trees, but I am more aware of my limitations. Yep, found two pair back there, but were from the late 70s, early 80s, non bellbottoms. Note to self...clean out the closet. Although they might still fit.;)

Wow what a way to start a post. Age is a mind thing. I know folks who are old at 30 and young in there seventies. By the way I fit the seventies group. For the most part I enjoy things that go fast but there are some things I prefer slow and easy. And as previously said Jet boating is about having fun on the water with family and friends.[flag]
