Friday before the 4th - who's "working" today?

@anmut Wow is that all? That is an average day for me :)

If I can crank through what I need today, I plan on going out fishing this afternoon. Get to go alone since Family will be out and about. Will see how the day progresses......

We are so busy I don't know what to do next. With that said, as soon as I get a proposal out this morning and the boss heads to a customer site this afternoon, I'll be "working from home" after lunch.

First we have to define the word “work”. I retired 3 years ago so I no longer have a job that pays me. On the other hand, I do have a long list of jobs that my wife kindly supplies and keeps adding to. On top of that I have some work to do to prepare for hunting season (clear brush, open roads, brush hog some new fields, plant late summer and fall feed plots), along with all the trips to Wally World to prepare for 30-40 person cookout and fireworks this weekend.

So if “work” is defined by a paying job, no, I am not working today. If it is more slanted towards “how many things do you have on the list or how busy you will be” then I am having a regular day with a little more on my TTD list.

If it is the latter, I still wouldn’t trade it for someone putting me on their schedule for any amount of money. (Well, maybe for some price but nobody would pay me that much)

Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th.

Hahahah!

Yep, we were out on the boat after work last night and going out tonight. My family has FIVE days of boating in a row planned. Last night was wakeboarding, tonight will be wakeboarding, tomorrow and Sunday will be all about foil crashing. Monday will be whatever doesn't feel horrible after four days of pain.

Tell you what, I'd trade that work for a desk job any day! That's usually my Saturday morning, getting out and working in the yard or garage. Never feels like work. Sitting in front of four monitors for 10 hours a day and keeping the peace between my employees... ugh.

Spent the last 20 years of my career driving 1.5 hours each way to DC to sit in an office and go to meetings as the IT Director for a law firm. I hear you brother. I jumped of the hamster wheel and have not looked back. I have 5 grandkids ages 6 months to 16 all within a 300 mile radius. With work and aging parents I never saw the ones out of town and only saw the ones a mile down the road once per week. NOW I spend good quality long stretches with them on a regular basis. BEST pay in the world!!

I have no complaints and no regrets. 12-14 hours a day 7 days a week have been recovered in my life.

Sitting here on the Forum for now. Plans were to walk the horses back to the barn from pasture and trim hooves, they are barefoot. I did one yesterday, but today it is raining, we do need it though. They or myself do not want to walk in the rain, already did it with the dogs this morning. After the nipping and rasping, my plans are to continue weed wacking around the 1000 blueberry bushes. I have about 300 left to do. So....waiting on the weather.

Running into an issue with a deployment at work, which has made me work more than I've wanted to today. It's raining, so no chance of boating today. I generally avoid the lakes during holidays, but the weather is going to be amazing on the 4th. Think I'm going to head out later that day after everyone is good and drunk and has gotten off the lake, or already received DUIs. Enjoy the evening out on the lake. Our local fireworks are on the 5th.

Flew from Wilkes-Barre to Chicago this morning and then drove home to Wisconsin. The boat is getting put on a bunk today so I can install the optional aft SeaDek that I bought during the group buy. They will then drop it in the water tomorrow morning and we will have 5 teenagers on the boat tubing.

Gonna be hot tomorrow and Sunday and was hoping for calm days but the wind will be between 10-15mph. I would love to have one weekend day where it’s sunny and calm but we’ve only had one such day so far this season. :-/

Wisconsin boating is going to be LIT this weekend! What body of water are you on?

Let it be known my work-to-jetboaters.net ratio time shall be ~ 1:4 today.
So.....for me.....like most days :D

Honestly though, I was in the office at 6am this morning for a conference call with our Belgium office. That lasted until about 9. I feel that is acceptable work participation for a Friday before a 3 day weekend.

Whats for lunch?

Same here - rushed in an hour early before the worker bees started showing up, got some stuff done that was on my list and some emails prepped for this afternoon. Waiting on lunch to go home and prep the boat for tonight. :)

I might try and sneak out of here a bit early today since I was in 2hrs early. Boss didn't see me arrive, but I guarantee he sees me leaving.....just the way it works out you know. We'll see how it goes. Have some "politicing" to do around the office that might lead to some long conversations. Might eat up the afternoon there as well.

We're going to the lake tomorrow evening (probably won't be on the water until 6pm or so). Neighbors usually go with us, but take their own boat. This year they want to ride on our boat with us. She's too nervous around other people to try and trailer theirs in a crowd. My wife has the "bring it on" mentality and suffers no such fear. Will have (4) adults, (3) kids and a dog on board for the fireworks. Should be good shenanigans there.

No idea WTF we're doing Sunday at this point. Might make the trip down to Rough River (90min drive) to spend the day on the water with some family. might say EFFE it and drive to Green River (120min drive) and spend the day by ourselves on the water. Oldest starts science camp on Monday, so I'll probably piddle fart around in the garage and try to get some chores done before a return to the grind on Tuesday.

I have just about had enough for the day. Gonna go out on LSC alone for the first time for peace and quiet and fishing.

Lake St. Clair, get with the abbreviations man, :D

Sorry, I'm a little slow on the uptake this morning. I'm on the backside of 4 cups of coffee and nearing a caffeine crash :D

LOL my boss is off today, but I still got some emails out this morning with my "at work computer" signature on them so it's known that I was in early. Sneaking out for sure later, but zero guilt about it as I take zero PTO or time off in the cold WI winters for anything.
