Fuel filler cap options 2010 212x

The white fuel cap on my 212x is faded and looks like crap. Didn’t want to replace with another plastic white (or black) filler cap. Is there any stainless or chrome options out there for my setup? I don’t mind changing the whole assembly if need be. Thanks!!

Mine is chromed plastic - looks like stainless but it's not. Perhaps you can get something like that for a reasonable price?

Yep, mine is chromed plastic too (2019 212 Limited S). I'm sure you could order one from Yamaha. I bet the two vent caps on the bow of your boat are fading too. Those are not as easy to switch out to chrome. Actually, they don't fade, they turn a darker yellowish color from the original white. Looks horrible.

Can't report on results yet, but I've purchased this hinged cap deck filler for our '06 SX210 to install after this season:

A few weeks ago the very first time filling up at the gas dock with our new (to us) boat and the cheesy ball chain snaps and the cap sinks to the bottom of the lake. Nice design...

So anyway, bought the crappy white OEM replacement (and separate cap gasket) to get us to the end of the season. Will swap out for this once the boat is out of the lake.

The OEM deck filler is angled also, but is a 2 inch hose on our boat. Bought a 2" to 1.5" reducer and 6" of 1.5" hose and clamps to complete this. Was suspect of the quality of the deck filler I ordered because of the price, but was pleasantly surprised. The metal casting for the cap isn't world class quality, but it and the hinge look durable. The vent is integrated into the cap (unlike separate vent on our boat and has an a one-way check valve integrated into the cap that engages when the cap is closed.

Funny thing is all of the new parts come out to only ~$10 more than just replacing the OEM cap and gasket.

I also looked at the Attwood hinged deck filler, but didn't like that it hinged up rather than forward. Plus, it was ~3x the price.
Will post an update after I install in a month or two.

Finally getting around to updating this post in case anyone finds useful.

Installed the new fuel cap/filler before putting the boat in this year, but kept forgetting to take some pics. Took a couple this evening after a great long weekend of early Summer(ish) weather here in Seattle (i.e. water temps up to a balmy 61).

Install was straightforward - removed 6 screws that held the original threaded filler neck and then cut the original rubber fuel filler hose. I couldn't coax the original filler neck free after loosening the hose clamps so just cut the hose after eyeballing the new filler neck, reducer and hose.

Had bought the 2" to 1.5" stainless reducer and 6" of 1.5" hose from Filler Neck Supply (www.fillernecksupply.com) over in Eastern Washington (Spokane). SKU 3851 for the reducer and D150L6 for the 6" of 1.5" fuel rated hose. The reducer and hose fit great and I ended up cutting off about 5" of the original 2" rubber fuel filler hose to make room for the new neck, reducer and hose.

Simply removed the port speaker for access to do this swap.

Had to use a Dremel to enlarge the fuel filler hole in the hull slightly -- probably no more than 1/8" for the new fuel filler neck/cap to fit flush. The original gasket from the fuel neck was in good shape so I ended up trimming the inside of it with some shop scissors to fit the larger opening. The new filler had four holes for mounting, so drilled new holes and secured with self-tapping stainless screws.

All in all, this was an easy mod and I'm happy with the results. I was originally going to plumb the vent line into the one integrated into the new filler, but due to time decided not to and simply plugged of the vent connection on the new filler and left the original vent intact.

Time will tell how well this works out...at least I won't have to worry about adding another chain to slosh about in the fuel tank...

Funny. Hadn't thought of it that way. I do have to say it looks like it came from the factory this way - it fits in well.
