Hello everyone,

We have had State Farm for 20 years and are thinking of divorcing them. Have seen a noticeable decline in their customer service. My daughter had a terrible time with them getting her brand new car repaired after hitting an enormous dog at 60 mph.

We recently moved to the Phoenix area and have to change agents anyway, so thought we might look at carriers as well.

Any recommendations?

Went through hell with our hail claims from last month with State Farm. My local agent really helped us make sure we got the money we deserved, but totally agree that the service is absolutely horrible anymore. Been with them for 18 years and really thinking about moving on as well.

I’ve heard good things about American Family Insurance. Farm bureau I don’t believe is too bad either.

I have American Family, I’ve had two claims on my truck and their alacrity was amazing. The agency owner even called to make sure everything was proceeding quickly. I have all my insurance with them which gets me discounts on the bundled package.

I think insurance mostly depends on where you are , state farm most of my life , but when we moved to colorado, we dropped them and went to progressive because the agents were less than helpful and the rates quadrupled, moved to ark in 2018 , dropped progressive and found an independent agent because of the same issues we had when we moved to colorado, same thing when we moved back to alabama in 2021 , went back to state farm , moved to fl last fall , shopped around for a while , moved home insurance to an independent, kept trucks and boat with state farm,it all depends on where you are and who you talk to , do some research and you'll usually make the right choice

I used State Farm for about 20 years. When I bought my current house, the price for everything led me to search for a different insurance company to see what was out there. After talking with Geiko, Progressive, State Farm, Farmers, Farm Bureau, the General (who doesn't provide coverage in my area), and USAA and getting a quote from each. I went over coverage of each line-by-line discussing discrepancies and differences with agents and specialist. I ended up with Farm Bureau (had to get a membership for $40 a year) but their price and coverage for everything was the best option. The hardest part is the research, but you will feel better about your decision when complete (and know what you have).

I use CHUBB through BIA (Boaters Insurance Agency).

I'm in a similar situation, but for different reasons. I've got Progressive, but thanks to an incredible stroke of bad luck, coupled with a twinge of good luck, my boat survived two tornados this year. Insurance totaled the boat, but only because of a broken windshield that is no longer available. I bought the boat back, and thermoformed a piece of plexiglass to fit. So now I've got a boat, but since Progressive totaled the boat, and has now paid for it, they will not put comprehensive coverage on it. Which, I guess I understand, but it sure does suck. So now, I need to find an insurance company to bump my coverage back up to comprehensive.

I’ve been with State Farm forever and have had really good claim experiences for some major claims. That said, it’s been a long time since I’ve had any claims so can’t tell you what they’re like today.
I may overpay a little but we have everything through them so with discounts it all seems acceptable to me. I haven't bothered shopping around.
I’ve had friends with other online focused insurers (geico, progressive) who have had very difficult claim experiences.

I shop around every couple of years. There's only a handful of insurance companies I'll never use again. State Farm, and AllState are on my list of absolutely never using. We went with Farm Bureau this year. They were about the same price as State Farm, actually a tiny bit more expensive on home insurance but within the range of acceptability. So it all evened out in the end.

I shop around as well… zero loyalty anymore but we have been with Farmers for 7yrs. They have been the best with rates and luckily have only had a couple of claims in my life.

We are in GA and every region is different. Definitely shop around.
