Getting the 242 Limited ready for the season

Late last summer I sold our first boat (2011 AR210). I looked at all options, including inboard and I/O boats. However, the Yamaha still intrigued me and it's what the family wanted. I found a good fit for our next boat in mid fall. Timing for a fairly decent price was about right since we weren't in-season. New boat is a 2013 242 Limited S. The PO didn't know how many hours the boat had when I went to see it in-person, but I found out it only had 92. It has several items that I want to address but it's a great foundation for our upcoming summer fun.

Issues:
- Running a bit rough.
- Carpet is somewhat rough.
- Couple of deeper scratches in the V of the hull.
- Deeper gouge in the tan section on the starboard side.
- A few scratches on the port side near the docking lights.
- Head unit not working.
- Boat cover on last leg.

Resulting Projects this spring:
- Treat boat cover with 303.
- New spark plugs on both motors.
- Fix old stereo or install new.
- New SeaDek to install from Jet Boat Pilot.
- Pull all carpet snaps and fill/finish with gel coat.
- Fill scratches / gouges with color matched gel coat paste.
- Remove all decals from PO and factory stickers / graphics.

First project was to strip off the old material from the rear deck, dash, and anchor storage area.

Using a strategy I first observed on Facebook, I rigged a plastic putty knife to a sawzall to get the bulk of the material off. Sorry, no pics of that. It left a lot of material and adhesive, but it was a start. Next step was using the 3M wheel to peel off everything else.




Got the wife in on the project for an hour or two!





The whole process is exhausting, but with the right tools, it's very doable albeit time consuming.

I've made a bunch of progress since my last post. After getting the old crap stripped off, it was time to address the screw holes from the carpet snaps. I cleaned them up and then filled them with an epoxy past to make them tight. Once that was good and dry, I ground away whatever seemed to be in the way and then filled/brushed/dripped white gel coat over it to make it somewhat blend in. Most of the snaps will be covered with the SeaDek, which was clearly by design. Well done Jet Boat Pilot. Here's a pic of them laid out for test fit...

Did you happen to pick up a service manual for this at all, to address your rough running issues and head unit?

Boat and Sea Dek color matches perfectly...looks great! I really like the shop..thats what I need.
