My name is Jon and I currently reside in the Charlotte area (NC). I grew up on a Yamaha LS2000 which was one heck of a boat (attached two photos)! So naturally, I gravitate to jetboats based on my experience and the value proposition remains intact. Fast forward to today and I've convinced my better half that a boat should be in our future. Unfortunately, the timing is proving to be difficult with the lack of inventory in showrooms and boat shows alike for the past two years. I'm stoked Yamaha released the 22' lineup, but the increase in price between the 19' and 22' is enough to prevent us from agreeing on size at the moment. It's hard to justify the benefits of a larger boat when there aren't any to compare. Nevertheless, we're hoping to get a boat for the 2023 or 2024 season and have a deposit down at a local dealership.

I've been reading threads for a few months and thoroughly appreciate all the knowledge and insight offered - it seems like a great community. Yamaha's 2023 announcement was the catalyst to finally register.

Welcome!

Go to the dealer and sit in the boats.. try the small one first, try moving around together on the different models, the try the same on the larger boats. You can have a little too much room and not need it, or you can not have enough room and don’t have it.

My friend asked me these questions when I wanted to get a boat.

-What are you going to use the boat for?
-How many people are you going to have on board realistically?
-How often are you going to use the boat?

He also counseled getting the smallest boat that would accomplish the task based on the three questions above. For example, he thought I should get the 19’ version of the FSH boat, but I lobbied for the 21’ version with the bow seating for friends and such. In the end he commented that he was glad I got the bigger boat since it was more comfortable than the 19’ would have been.

The two times I visited a local dealership, they only had 25’ boats or bigger - inventory was very light. I plan to check back in the coming weeks/months. I had better luck simply walking the parking lot. We plan to attend the boat show when it comes to town in February. While this would be past the commitment date for our deposit, it will still be a worthwhile experience.

I appreciate the three questions you’ve outlined. I believe the SX190 checks a lot of boxes, but my biggest concern is how well it performs in chop. Our primary lake (Lake Norman) gets very busy in the summer and friends/colleagues have cautioned me on this. A small concern is the single engine and the “threat” of engine failure for whatever reason. In the 15+ years my folks had their LS2000, there was one time an engine failed and we had to limp home with the other.
