Gone to The Darkside

We purchased a new '19 AR195 two weeks ago. I've been lurking around here for about a month searching and learning. I'm finding a lot of information here and want to thank the contributors and forum provider.
I'm looking out at Lake Havasu, from our backyard, as I write and no one is staying at home in these parts. The lake is full of boats. The state has been closing the parking lots to the launch ramps around 10:30 in the morning, because they ran out of parking and there is 400-500 spaces.
I've been sailing for 50 years and this is the first powerboat I've owned since the '70s. The boats name is Darkside and most sailboat people will get it. Thanks for the add to the forum and hope I will have something to contribute.

I grew up on small powerboats and then taught myself to sail.

My Yamaha shares the storage unit with my 17' O-Day Daysailer III. The O'Day hasn't been wet in years despite my best intentions. Kids like to go places.

The good news is that sailing gives us a better background in seamanship than some power boaters ever develop. You'll also know how to behave around sailboats.

Funny, It works the other way too...watching all the small motorboats slowdown and pound in a 10-15kt. wind and 3ft waves on Lake Champlain, trim tabs or not, while on the sailboat the fun begins.

Your not alone I have a Dutch built bluewater 28' sailboat as well as a 2019 FSH210. If you knew my wife and I you would understand the name of our boat! Welcome

I get the name. At 67 years of life, I would have had several million dollars in the bank if I had not had so much fun with toys. No regrets. I'm not done yet. I keep trying to talk my wife into getting another airplane to go with the AR195, S2 Sailboat, Camper, etc. She is always using the same excuse, " If we both had not retired at 50, maybe".

Funny, It works the other way too...watching all the small motorboats slowdown and pound in a 10-15kt. wind and 3ft waves on Lake Champlain, trim tabs or not, while on the sailboat the fun begins.

You might add that it's a lot easier to stay aboard our sailboats for several nights then a jetboat. We spent 34 nights aboard our sailboat boat this last season, which here in Havasu is Nov-Mar. Now we are year round boaters.

I used to sail my Daysailer on Long Lake on a pretty regular basis. I'd get on the water by 6:30 a.m. and be back in the office by noon or so.

Normally I could count on a near-perfect breeze to scoot me up the lake, but sometimes Mother Nature would let me down.

One day the wind was so light that I had to keep dipping my fingers in the water to see if I was moving. I still had some steerage, but it wasn't much.

So I'm lying there on the seat with my hat over my eyes, poking my head up every now and then to see if I'm about to bump a fishing boat. (It sure wouldn't have been much of a bump.)

It was during one of these pop-ups that I noticed a waterbug swimming PAST me. I thought to myself "Oh, heck no!" and started fooling with sail trim. I think I raced him up the lake for a good 15 minutes before the breeze finally picked up and I left him in my wake. "Not today Mr. Waterbug, not today!"

While this probably sounds ridiculous to those that "don't get it," if you've been there, you understand why this is a vivid memory 15 years after it happened. I learned a LOT about my boat and about sailing in those 15 minutes.
