I have a 2014 ar 240 trying to put the stereo system together wondering what anyone recommends with tower speakers jl audio? Wet sounds? I wanted black are we paying for the name is there good speakers that are just as good but not so pricey

Depends on your budget. Are you trying to project music 75' to the wakeboarder or just 15' back to the surfer. Or just for hanging out on the porch.

Properly powered, WetSounds and Exiles (horn speakers) are the way to go for projecting. That said, I've been using Fusion coaxial tower speakers powered by a WetSounds HT4 - and it projects plenty enough for me. They can be clearly heard from the tube and sound crystal clear from the surfboard. They sound great. I'm planning on changing them to the 8"Rockford Fosgate because of their bigger size and their swivel clamps though.

Like @octavio3311 said.....its all about what you want to do. I am running a pair of Exile XM9's and I can tell you its freaky what HLCD speakers are capable of. I can literally walk a couple hundred yards across the sandbar, and hear every word......loud and clear. If you're not into that and just want to listen while on the swim deck or possibly surfing, give the Fusions, JL's, Polks, or Rockfords a look.

On a side note @octavio3311 .....have you heard the Rockfords yet. I am considering their marine speakers for the stock cabin locations.

Just to add to what @redthumper9 says. Properly powered HLCD (horn) speakers sound amazing from a distance. But they don't sound so good when you're hanging out directly behind them, like hanging on the "porch" or floating behind the boat.
So give that some thought.

@redthumper9 - the Rockfords sound good. A friends Chapparal is equipped with all Rockfords. 6 inboats and a sub - all powered by JL amps. Sounds GOOD. All the new Cobalts come with Rockford.
For comparison - I think it sounds almost as good as mine, the difference being my WetSounds sub puts out more boom.

I purchased two pairs of the Rockford Fosgate PM282HW w/ black brackets ........ Love how loud and crisp they sound. The compression horn tweeter makes a huge difference. I can get them for about $750 w/ brackets + shipping & tax from a couple of RF authorized dealers in SoCal if you guys are interested ( I use to work as the SoCal Viper.com sales rep )........ Here are some photos. I'll try to take more photos soon, I'm new to this forum.

I'm powering the 2 pairs of PM282HW tower speakers with an Alpine PDX-F4 4ch amp ........ An Alpine PDX-V9 5ch amp is powering the inside boat speakers and single 10" sub, also Rockford Fosgate ( I'll be taking photos of these items during the next boat trip) ............. I made a single amp rack w/ an basic EQ for extra control and quick adjustments. I'm very happy with the system so far, I do need to add a capacitor and swap out the batteries for Optima Blue Top marine batteries. When the volume is high the voltage drops, I'm trying to minimized that from happening. Stable voltage means better sound! =)

Is that $750 . . . . . EACH? or for 4?

My buddy was asking me last weekend if adding a capacitor would benefit my system. I have no clue, he tried to explain the benefits but I have not really read much about people adding them to their marine systems. Thoughts?

Amp rack looks legit BYW! Not seen that type of set up before.

$750 for a pair w/ brackets ( brackets are sold separately and come in either white or black just like the speakers )

Well that's a little better. . . . .for a moment I thought they were $750/ea

Adding a capacitor will stabilized the voltage. Stable voltage means better amplifier performance, better power and sound quality overall.
I plan on installing a 2 farad Rockford Fosgate cap before 4th of July weekend in Havasu coming up ( Experts recommend 1 farad per 1000 watts )

I didn't want to cut or drill any holes in the cabin and I seen that the 2016 AR240 has the OEM amp next to the batteries, so I figure that's a good location to mount my amps. I also wanted to be able to adjust the amp and EQ easily. That's how that amp rack came about. It's made out of standard MDF wood which I sprayed with rubberized undercoating paint to waterproof it. ( Similar to bed liner spray )

Hi guys, I installed a couple of Roswell Neptune 8.0s on my tower and replaced all of the stock interior speakers with Roswell Elite SS speakers while adding a couple to the swim deck. I also added a Roswell 1211DVC sub. I am powering with 1,500 watts total and using the WetSounds EQ. The system sounds amazing. While the Neptune 8.0 tower speakers aren't horn speakers, they have ridiculously loud sound but what's more important for me is the clarity. If I turn the system up, they can easily be heard across the lake. Roswell is not very well known to the consumer market but they are huge in the professional world. They partner with Focal which is a high end manufacturer out of Europe. I would give them some consideration of you are looking. Not to mention they look good and have built in LED's.

I love that sub installation ! Now I'm thinking of installing my sub in that same place

Yea it's nice there and doesn't take up any spec in storage. I personally called Yamaha engineering to make sure that it is a sealed compartment and they verified that it was for me. That is the spot that they install the 10" sub on the 242xE series so I pulled the idea from that. I just bumped up to 12".
