Just a heads up. Was in the no wake mode in a no wake zone and I got a ticket today. I explained to the officers that feature and how our boats work and what the wake looks like. I was wasting my time. Sept. 4 court date. I have video and will be there to make my case. Just posting this as an FYI because our boats appear to make more of a wake than they actually do.

I got pulled over once and was told i was under the 11 mph limit for dark on my lake. I think 11 is too fast! I mean isn't that wake surfing speed?

Our boats just give the appearance of too much wake unfortunately. Just want to warn everyone. I was considerate, had all my gear (life jackets, throw cushion, fire extinguishers, registration, etc.) but got a ticket for doing the right thing. Ugh!

in the NO wake zone, I use the first no wake setting on the boat. In the Minimum Wake zone, I use the highest setting.

Agree, due to the nozzles being closer to the water surface compared to prop boats, they produce too much wash behind giving the appearance you are going fast.

Man that sucks. Any idea how much of a fine it’s going to be?

I’ll let you know in the morning. It’s on a website somewhere apparently. I plan to be at court though, assuming the officers won’t be there.

In wake mode the fastest I’ve been was 4.5 mph on according to my navigation app. If I choose not to use it I’m certain I would be overtaken by other vessels in the no wake zone!

I’ve never used “No Wake Mode”. Will you guys give me the benefits of using it? Easy to get in/out of this mode?

I use cruise and the Connext GPS speed mode all the time.

I also got pulled over for “making waves” in a no wake zone...After showing him all my required safety gear, etc...I reasoned with the officer telling him that Jetboats create high wake at very slow speeds, and that driving my boat any slower would limit my steering ability...I guess he was sympathetic and caught me a break.

My boat has a No Wake Mode switch which allows me to give a little extra power without having to use the throttles when in idle or just out of idle. It really comes in handy docking or trailering. The thrust really helps with maneuvering, especially in no wake zones. That same switch also serves as a cruise control once you’re at 1500 rpms I believe.

Man @sunbyrned that sucks. Which body of water and no wake zone?
It does suck. I do all the right things, had all the safety gear, registration, whole nine yards, and I got a ticket for doing the right thing. Oh well. I was at Taylorsville at the marina.

I often will use one side idle and one side no wake but usually only when i know more ignorant people are around.

After seeing some lightning I did no less than 45mph through three no wake (and empty) lakes on Friday. Sucks to hear your story, hope you can get it worked out.

@Trannyguy The officer said I can either pay the fine or go to court and that “...the cost of the fine is on a website somewhere.” Who knows where though. I can’t find it. Ha!

Man, that's no good. Honestly I'm a bit surprised.

Maybe the CO's are being more strict lately? I've been on Taylorsville since I was a kid (better part of 3 decades now) and have never seen a CO write a ticket for anything other than drinking violations.

Hopefully it gets tossed out in court. Might be worth having some pics/video of what speed the boat does in No Wake Mode, and having that information handy. I would look through the boating regs as well and see what they define no wake zones to be in terms of speed and displayed wake.

I'll be following along to see how this shakes out.

I took a video yesterday for the court date. Tried to upload it here but is too large. You guys don’t need to see it anyway. What’s odd is that the court date is Sept. 4, which is now Oaks Day before the Kentucky Derby. Everything is shut down on Oaks Day. I’m hoping I go and find the court closed. Maybe that was the officer’s way of letting me off the hook. Wishful thinking... I’ll keep you posted.

That’s about right. I shot a deer this year and loaded it on my razor before I notched the tag. I was still in the woods but got a ticket and he told me the same thing. Very unhelpful people sometimes. My fine was $175 plus court cost. Seems sometimes they could devote there time catching people who intentionally don’t follow the law rather then ticketing us who try to do things the right way.

Yea.... assuming the Derby isn't cancelled, Sept 4th will see the city closed down. Doubt it gets dropped, but maybe the cop will want to be at Oaks instead of court.

Good luck man, I really hope this turns to nothing in the end. I'm still in shock the CO's at Taylorsville would write this ticket. There's just so much other rampant stupidity at that location at any given time, I just can't get my head around you being the one to get the citation.
