I have a 2007 Yamaha At 230 my steering seems very hard, stiff etc.....normal or not ? I have had a chaparral 232 very easy to steer

glad to have you on board, update your profile with your location so we know where you're at,

How long have you owned the boat ?

I would disconnect the cable at the bucket and try to turn the wheel to determine if it's the cable or bucket, you could also disconnect in the helm from the steering arm to further determine it's not the wheel,

Once you confirm it's not the buckets or the wheel your left with cables which are normally the problem.

If they've never been changed it's probably time,

It's not a difficult task and many members do it themselves,

look in our FAQ section for instructions including part numbers for Teleflex cables which are much less expensive than buying from Yamaha.

Also, be sure to look at the "known issues" link in my signature below for common problems and fixes for boats of your vintage,

.

I have only had the boat 2 months runs a great but with the steering I’m thinking of selling. Thank you for the info I’ll try those steps

Scott is correct, almost certainly the steering cables. As they are likely 13 years old....not a bad run for them!

Two FAQs on the subject:

Should give you all you need, but if not, reply to one of the linked threads and we'll help ya out! (and yes, adding your location to your profile will perhaps get you an offer from a local person to show you the ropes.)
