Help cleaning jet drives

I would like some advice on what you think this is and how I would clean this? Also would anodes help or does my boat have them already?

Does your boat stay in the water for extended periods? Is it in a salt water environment? Looks like a lot of corrosion. I use Chain Wax on all my submerged parts and have not had any corrosion issues.

Looks like corrosion from being in salt water more than likely. The anode is on the other side of the pump from where the pic was taken, so cant really see it in this pic.
I would pull the pump and go to town with a wire wheel on a drill. Depending on the condition once you clean it up I would also probably repaint the pump with the appropriate primer/paint for salt water use.

Awesome thanks. It does sit in fresh water all spring through to fall. I will clean them up and use that on them. Thank you.
