I'd like to get my FIL a radio and drop down whip antenna for his fishing boat. He's getting the hang of his boat and heading deeper into the Gulf of Mexico (Out of Cape Coral) than his handheld radio can handle. Id like to keep the radio cost under $200. There are a lot of choices out there, what do you guys have? What do you wish for? What do you like, and what do you hate? All info is appreciated. Picture was just for some attention :winkingthumbsup"

I have, and am happy with my Standard Horizon GX 1600, and I think it was around $200.

Thoughts? This is the GX1800 for $123 after rebate
