I finally have all of the perfect pass parts installed, I just need to connect up to a power source. I think I have a couple options:

1. Use the power from the old speedometer- rumor has it that this does not have enough power.
2. There is a purple and black wire running power to my depth finder - can I tap into that?
3. Are there other options besides running a fuse panel? I'm trying to keep it simple and am not quite sure what I'm doing with that one.

Opinions/experiences welcome, my boat is a 2011 210 series.

Thanks - I've been looking at those, but wasn't sure if there was a difference in the wiring between different years/models.

I tried the speedo at first too and it was a no go. @swatski has a good recommendation.

@Julian we basically have the same boat...mine's just a little taller. I used the purple wire that was on the old speedo and it appears to work great. What issues did you have with using the speedo wire? I've only been out once for a fine tuning of the throttle cables and a couple of riderless runs with the PP.

Speedo wire has been a source of some issues if I recall, while the multi-display gauge wire seems to provide enough juice. I remember reading the issue is with voltage drop. Maybe okay with fresh battery? @sstegh ?

2011 models do not have a multi-display.

The issue I had was that PP would start up and run, then shutdown randomly (if I recall the exact symptom correctly). When I called PP they said it does that under low voltage situations.

I think this issue is hit or miss with our boats. Some have great success using the original wire for the speedo ( like me ) and some do not. I dont think you will know until you try it.

It may all be in the connection approach? I used their crimp connector and it didn't work, but as I have a 4 gang bluesea switch within a short distance, it was a no brainer to just switch over to that rather than fiddle with it.

PP recommends using the red/yellow wire from the ignition, I had a hell of a time finding that wire. There are several red/yellow wires back there; look for the red/yellow wire coming directly out of the ignition switch (where you insert the key to start the motor). The wire is only 3 or 4 inches long before it goes into a harness, it's 12 volt and provides enough power. Mine was very difficult to reach and hidden in a mess of other wires. The obvious advantage of using the ignition wire is that when you turn off the motor, PP shuts off too and doesn't drain your battery when anchored or in a slip for the night.

It's been a while since I've installed mine @robbo3 But I'm pretty sure I tapped into the depth finder power supply when I installed. The speedo was known to have issues back then.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it as we start using it. If I run into similar issues then I too can switch over to a different power source. I also ran a set of power wires for future use while I was doing this install so I have that going for me!

I was able to get the power off of the depth finder purple and black wires. I hope it holds up long term with enough power

Now I just need to make some throttle adjustments as it seems like it's too tight because I can't get it to true idle state.
