So, I know it is possibly overkill but I'm sure it will come in handy, but I finally got my Simrad 4G radar mounted! I'm sure it will come in handy out here in the Gulf of Mexico.
1/2" Starboard from Home Depot and
Item # 669525 Model # N422-580 National Hardware 1 Count 1.375-in W x 2.23-in L x 5/16-in Dia Stainless Steel U-Bolts and lock nuts from Lowes.
Fender Washers on the bolts/lock washers for the radar dome.
The mount is a 20" circle with one 90 degree corner for mounting the clamshell when I run the cable through.
I used black Gorilla tape on both sides of the canvas where the dome bolts were going then I burned clean holes through using a soldering iron.
It all went together very nicely. The goal is for it to stay there and not go anywhere. I think I have it pretty locked in. I just hope it's not too much for the tower.
Only thing I would have liked to do additionally is to belt sand the mount to make it nice and round. I used a jig saw and hand sanded, but it'll do. When I replace the canvas someday, I will invest more tool money in sanding solutions.
Now I just have to hook it up to my Simrad GO9 XSE.
More to follow.
