Sucked up a rock at Silverwood Lake. Guessing I need a new impeller and wear ring?20220608_170028.jpg

Ouch. Sorry to see that. Ironically i was looking at prices on Yamaha boat parts today. Boats.com had the impellers for Approx 125 each, and the wear ring approx 76$.

Boats.com? Don't they only have boat sale listings, not parts?

If they really have them.

Id call Impros they are in your back yard.

There several companies all owned by the same outfit…you can tell by the web page design. If you do order parts from them make sure they actually have the parts in stock.

My Bad. Correction Boats.net. And Sport is correct, you should verify. That impeller i was looking up was for my boat. not yours

My Bad. Correction Boats.net. And Sport is correct, the impellers are 37-42 days lead time, the wear sleeves show in stock.
For my boat, (2018 SX190), it shows the impeller as being in stock, $226, and the impeller housing as shipping in 2 days, at a $98 cost.

Yes, I changed my post because i realized we didnt have the same boat and part numbers. Its been a long day. On the bright side they are in stock supposedly. On the "am i screwed" side is whether or not when you inspect your bearings you have to rebuild those as well. dont forget to get replacement o-rings for the cone. And any grease/sealants/molybendum ect.. you may need.

Are you sure you need those just yet? Have you pulled the impeller out and checked everything out? I can’t tell that’s there’s any damage but perhaps I’m missing it.

I sucked up a few rocks last year when I was doing my break-in. I pulled the pumps and I only needed to replace the wear rings. Pull the pump and check it out. Easy Peasy

Revised response. I somehow read that you sucked up a rope. I see now you said rock, which made me look at this a little closer. I see the scratches on the wear ring now. All that purple goop. What is that? I thought that was a melted rope. I think the impellers look okay though, but yes, the ring probably needs some attention. Sorry for the confusion.

That's not purple goop, just the light. It's the bare metal of the intake grate after rocks probably scraped the paint off.

Gotcha. That’s okay. But yes, as others mentioned, the wear ring may be an issue.

Until I can get it fixed, how bad will performance likely be affected if the family takes the boat out to putz around in?

Until you take it out for a spin nobody knows. Could be no impact. You will know fairly quickly. If no vibration or performance drop then no hurry to do anything

I picked up a similar rock in my 2003 LX210.....and once I had it out, I had zero impact to my performance. So it all depends on if/how much cavitation it might have caused. Also, if there are obviously non-smooth parts on the impeller, removing those might help a lot....but get it out first and show us some photos of the edges of the impeller. Then get it back in the water and see how she does.

Like above, I would pull the pump, inspect, straighten and file the edges of the impeller and test it out. If no performance lost or cavitation, run it. I've seen worse looking out there running with no issues.

Update:

Took out the pump, impeller, and shaft. Here we go:

Looks like the vanes on the impeller wheel only got bungled on the ramping up, not the top of the vanes, so a good seal should be made with the wear ring.

Also, the inner wear ring is gouged, but I'm going to hit that lightly with at least 2000 grit wet/dry to smooth things out. The outer ring is just fine.

Of course taking it apart sucked. At first I was going to try to just remove the intake grate part in the center, no, one of the allen head bolts stripped, luckily before I broke it loose. So time to go out back to the stern.

Linkages come off just fine. Thrust Vector, steering and bucket linkages off. Went to unbolt the sacrificial zinc plate, of course the head of one turns right off, yay. Luckily, the thing was so lodged in there, once I got the first section removed before the pump, I was able to turn it to get the bolt out of the outer cone housing, and then my trusty Milwaukee vice grip held tight enough to spin the broken bolt out of the zinc (is the top bolt hole in the zinc threaded? Damn!)

Since that bolt had broke, I couldn't remove the lower bolts on the outer cone housing with a socket so I had to use a combo wrench, fun.

After that came off, everything was simple. Except when I went to remove the Lateral Truster just to inspect things, the damn set screw tore the head off too, yay. And this is using actual allen wrenches, not impact driver bits. Don't think this set screw will be that much of a necessity, so I'll loctite up the main bolt on the bottom holding it on.

Now a trip to Lowe's for the needed Zinc plate bolt, what type of loctite is used on it? Also, do I need a specific grade bolt? Zinc plated? Grade 8?

I would knock down those leading edges of the impeller. Block of wood and a hammer or a brass hammer & chunk of steel. Try so get it as straight as possible and then file the edges down for the finish.
