That annoying whistle!! Thought this might be helpful since most of us end up with a roof rack on the truck/SUV when towing to the lake. Rather than buying the expensive (but cool looking) air dam, there is a $2.00 method to silence whistle of wind passing over the rack bars. Buy some black 1/4" bunge cord material and wrap it in a tight spiral around the rack poles. I think my spiral spacing is about 3". I didn't test different spacings. The bungee material is stretchy, stays tight, and is easily movable to attach racks etc. Anchor the ends of the bungee with a knot and a tywrap or some black tape. My thule rack on my truck sounded like a bunch of wind Banshees. Now it is silent to 160 Kmh with the windows open. Mine have been on for 3 years. Will post a pic tomorrow. Hope this helps someone. Cam.
