It seems that I can only get the digital readout on my speedo when I start the motor. Is there a Accessory position or some trick to get the readout to work without cranking the motor?
You can just bump the key quickly on then off and the engines won't start but the ECU's will fire up and light up the gauges... only for less than a minute but enough to grab fuel level or engine hours here around the shop.. it's also all we need to get the laptop to talk to the engines
Thanks for that. Had a full boat last weekend including my parents, and my Dad was trying to check things out while everyone else was swimming. Wish I knew then what I know now, but next time I've got an answer for him.
@B_Mutter hey buddy i hate to take advantage of free advice (not really) but can i bend your ear for a suggestion how to trouble shoot 'lost power' to both my gauges. started with speedo acting up, then couple days later the tach was acting up until finally just quite. I am not a complete idiot but not too far from it. this is our first boat. I have checked all connections behind dash, traced purple wire to where it exits ECU and doesnt appear to have power. Battery Terminals are good condition. I have pulled relays and they appear to be clean but i haven't put a volt meter to them. Everything else works just fine... starts... accessories work... lights work... Really hoping it's a simple something rather a $1000 ECU.
