Last month I purchased a 2015 Yamaha SX190 jet boat to navigate the shallow waters of the Indian River County ICW. Being new to boating, I am having difficulty steering at slow speeds and was doing some research on aftermarket steering kits to have better control. I found 2; HydroJet Pro and Yamaha Thrust Vector. The pricing is similar. I’m reaching out to those experienced in this area and I’m asking for your opinions. Your responses are greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Take a look at Cobra Jet Steering. Search it here on the forums. I use them. Great slow speed steering and They will also give better steering at speed as well as some additional steering if you have to throttle down fast. @Cobra Jet Steering LLC

Ok great thank you. I’ll check it out.

It looks like that’s exactly what I’m looking for and they are cheaper than what I was seeing out there. Thanks again

you would want to add the super ultimate single engine set , spring loaded , tempered aluminum ,adjustable and steering assistance at all speeds not just at the dock, great for rough conditions as well as smooth water and also excellent for water sport activates and your boat does not have a keel so you can add the mega fang plus for stronger reverse control, better for stopping or backing off trailers or beaches and they add a power steering effect by having forward leading fins . Out of curiosity, what is HydroJet Pro? Of all the years of owning Yamaha Jets and SeaDoo with Mercury SportJets, I have never heard of HydroJet Pro

Stick with Cobra Jet or Thrust Vector, both have great reputations here.

Hydrojetpro Looks like a complete knock off of Thrust Vectors and even mentions Jeff in their about page!

Oh yes, all one word! I have seen those on Ebay. There was some horror stories shared about those a while back. The photo on ebay reminded me of the pointed fins. They look really similar to an old thrust vector design.

This is what I found on Google

I appreciate them giving me credit but they have the year I started making jet boat steering all wrong. The problem with their design aside from only working at slow speeds is the reverse bucket operates the fins and placed them down when backing so take a look at the very small size of the cable operating the reverse buckets and see the issue if the fins hit the ground while backing.
