Hi. My friend requested a floodlight to be put on his 242 limited. It does not have a tower. Is this something I can put at the bow or in front of the steering and be controlled by a switch ? Has anybody done this before ? What floodlight would you recommend that can run off the 12 v battery ?
He boats in Lake Ontario and would be comfortable having a floodlight in the nights to navigate.

Thanks
Amar.

I would suggest an LED automotive type mounted from the tower. Good light output with low power drain. Cam.

This sat does not have a tower. It is a 242 SX Limited

It's an instant ticket where I boat. Only thing water patrol really, really don't mess around with. Hand held spotlight, on for second or two then off. Good luck with it!

It fogs quite a bit up north in the nights. I have seen quite a few regular boats using them.

I got stopped by Florida Fish and Wildlife Patrol for safety check. I asked and they told me you can have lights inside the boat, not a good idea ie Jose Fernandez, but no outside lights besides the running lights. I have the speakers with the LEDs and they discourage running with them on.

I have seen some boats have/use flood lights when approaching the dock. How do they get away with it ?

I think that is OK for docking but not when running around at night.

Excellent. Just what I need. Now my question is ...for a non tower boat any recommendation on where to keep this light? I am thinking right next to the anchor at the bow and turn it on remotely with a switch when needed. I think it is too much to expect a light that can be swiveled electronically by the captain. But a light that can be switched on and off when needed would work very well.

What led light is recommended ?

Doesn't the 242 Limited have docking lights on it?

My friend wants a flood light. Sometimes in the night it fogs quite a bit and we cannot see the entrance to the cove when returning back from a Toronto downtown. So need a floodlight now and then to navigate the passage in the cove for the marina parking (sharp rocks on either side). You can only go between the green and red buoys. Anything outside of that is a recipe for disaster.
