Hello all I replaced the intermediate shaft bearing assembly on my 2006 SX230. after installing it and test running it I am getting a leak where the couplers come together, meaning where the intermediate shaft couples to the engine. There is a hole in the end of the coupler that is from factory (see picture) I notice where the drive shaft from impeller inserts into Intermediate shaft assembly there are 2 rubber O-Rings. Did not see those. Do you think those are my problem, they are letting water by them and it is coming out that hole. Part that confuses me is why now? I have had that shaft out multiple times in the past and never a leak. I have order new ones but was curious if anyone had any thoughts

The hole in the middle of the coupler on your second pic is supposed to have a rivet, I noticed mine slowly leaking after I replaced it while anchored. I assume that’s where the water is coming from! I just didn’t take it back off to seal that hole yet. Pic below for reference:

that's odd, my 2005 and 2007 manual doesn't mention that part at all ????

weird, i never saw that till Acard7 pointed it out. And why you don't have it is strange. It does show on a parts diagram when i look it up but I found one for sale and it does not have that pin, just a hole

Very interesting because i look up a new one and it just has the hole. Thank you for pointing that out. I have had it apart before and never remember that pin

Funny it never leaked before. Unless salt water ate rivet. But i have a pretty good leak while underway, does not seem to leak sitting still, that thing is slinging water out of the coupling at about 7k RPM. I actually order 2 rivets just to see. funny they cost a $1 but hit you for 8 bucks shipping when it could go in an envelope with a .50 stamp:rolleyes:

Dang mine is opposite it barely drips when I’m anchored but while underway doesn’t drip at all.. interesting either way. You’ll have to report back on what you find out!

I installed a pop rivet in the hole when I did my bearings, honestly the o rings #5 in the diagram should prevent water from getting up into the intermediate shaft.
