On the last couple trips out on my 242 SE, I’ve had a couple instances of one of the motors struggling to start after floating for a bit. It’s an e-series with push button start.

One motor starts up fine. The second will turn over until the starting motor stops automatically. It typically starts on the second try of the push button.

It seems to happen evenly between the two motors which leads me to believe it’s the battery. Any other ideas out there?

Did you ever get any diagnosis on this issue? I'm having a similar issue on my 2020 242SE.

I don't have the e-series, but have had that happen with hard starting when it is hot outside. Several theories on why it happens, but most say vapor lock in the fuel rail... Be sure you run your blower before you try to start--that can lower the temp some and may give you better results.

Thanks. I read the long thread from a few years ago. It was interesting though that most of them were saying it was the port engine whereas mine is the stbd. But will definitely try that out the next time.

I’ve had this happen once.. can’t remember which engine it was. What I try and do is to make sure that if I’ve been running hard for a while I turn on the blower right after I slow down and I idle along for 5 mins or so to dump as much as heat as possible into the lake from the cooling system. I’ll leave the blowers on for at least 5 mins after shutdown to help remove any heat build up in the engine compartment.

Same as above. The hard start when hot has happened to me a few times. Now I cruise for about 3-4 minutes below 2000 rpms before I shut down and let the blower run for a few minutes after I shut down. Haven’t had any problems since.
Interesting that it’s such a wide spread issue. Wonder if Yamaha is aware and may be working on some sort of fix?
And that it only seems to affect particular engines. I’ll have to check how the exhausts and such are run in my boat but it’s never happened on the port side one, and in my older 2015 it hasn’t happened at all on either engine.
