I’m looking at a 2006 Yamaha 230 HO. I feel like it’s high, but I know it’ll sell at that price. It is super clean, 360hrs. Lots of extras- would you??

Also, going for a test drive, any secrets to look for warnings? Thanks all!

At that price you are close to something much more current.

I paid 20k for my 08 AR230, it has more hours but came with extras as well. That’s way too high.

He’ll have a hard time selling that old of a boat. Make a fair offer that is lower and be prepared to wait a couple of weeks. It’ll take time for seller to realize he has an old overpriced boat.

Ask if he routinely removes the clean out plugs and then have him show you how to do it. He could be selling you a boat that has jammed in clean out plugs and that’s an overcomable nightmare you’ll get to deal with.

Rent a boat a few times for the rest of the summer and wait for boat prices to come back to reality. When I financed my used boat my credit union used NADA as the value base line and would only finance 80% of that number. That means they would only finance 20,000 of that particular boat and you would need to bring the 13,000 to the table. If your paying 100% cash no big deal.

I’ll do that. We are going for a test drive. So if he says no, red flag??

We were going to do cash... we’ve tried on 3 Yamaha boats, by the time we get a appointment set up with seller, they are calling back saying they sold it.
I was told Yamaha is sold out of 2021 so older models are in high demand, and prices are up?? Do you know?
Also, no boat rental out here...

A bit of a red flag. It’s routine miantenance thing. Those plugs are a compression type with a big rubber seal. If he never removed them regularly, then they are stuck and it’ll take a lot of doable work to get them out.

I wouldn't pay that for 15 year old boat. According to NADA average retail for a 2006 AR230 HO is 25,820.
That’s what we saw too. Market is confusing me. Feels like housing market/ everything is overpriced ?

Ok it’s on my list! Thank you

@RBeach Don't let your desire for a boat get you into a poor purchasing decision. You would be buying way in excess of what it should be at and if the market evens out you will either have pissed away your cash or be significantly under water on a loan.

You guys are making me think I should wait... it’s definitely a tough choice. Don’t have boat rentals or much market here in WY. But have a new lake place wanting to enjoy... but you are correct- desire might be over influencing my decision. Thank you for your input!

I personally would wait also. Market is nuts right now.

If you don’t have big family to take boating add few more bucks and go with new ar190
We have 3 boys, all under 10. Hoping to do a bunch of water stuff/sports with them?

When did you buy?
I bought back beginning of February from a dealer, they had it listed at 28k, I got them down to 20, and they had to do a lot of work on the boat and still had some minor things wrong but we cut a deal to call it even. Obviously this was before covid prices really hit, but even then they still didn’t have much in stock to sell back in Feb. The marina told me they usually have 50+ boats to sell by the coming spring, they only had 10 when I purchased, so marina prices were already elevating. Only had one new boat when we went back to pick up in May.. I could never spend even the listed 28k price prior to the major covid market (I’m a tight ass though lol). Just before I purchased mine, I looked at one exactly as you are looking at but it was in Oklahoma and it had 100 hours and the marina only wanted 19k. I just really wanted the head compartment and the 08 was about 4 hours closer.

Even if you wait a few more weeks I bet you’ll start to see even more used boats flood the market and the prices will have to drop. Best of luck to you though!
