I’m having my dealer store my soon purchased 250 outside on his property this winter. It will be factory wrapped. Should I be concerned about this? The Hudson Valley isn’t super balmy over winter.

very excited to see your purchase, are you going to get to drive it all before putting it away ?

as long as the water is blown out I wouldn't worry about the cold, I'd be more worried with a mooring cover on it and snow build up stretching it but with a wrap it should be fine,

.

Our winters I recommend 100% indoors. Everyone who comments on my boat thinks its brand new and I have a painted steel trailer.
Outside its exposed 365 to sunlight (fading), rain, snow, all the elements which take a toll on your tires, rims, brakes, brake lines, electrical connections, winch, winch strap, brake accuator, chains, and any exposed parts of the boat that are left uncovered, jet housings, impellers, steering cables, should I keep going..lol
I'm not saying you need heated (I wish) but if it isn't much more $ I would recommend it. It will save you maintenance and resale in the long run..
I pull that thing out in the spring and its pristine..lol

As long as it wrapped well with the proper snow load support it should be fine.

Which 250 are you getting?
I’m buying a blue AR250. I did a little recon today to prepare before I sit down tomorrow with the dealer. I’m going to buy a RideSteady and request the dealer install it for free. PP vendor told me 1.5 shop hours, RS, our buddy, told me 2-3 hours.
My other request is the dealer honor “boat show” type promotions thru end of March. I give him an end of season $5k deposit (or whatever) on a site unseen boat, Yamaha loves his dealership, sends him more boats. If this is true, certainly he can throw me a January promo after the fact. I’m hoping for a meaty warranty. Who knows but I’m going to ask.

The other thing that concerns me is I don’t own a tow vehicle. In a perfect world I throw 10 hours on the boat in the Hudson (the dealer is north of NYC) and give the boat back to him to store for the winter. He does the 10 hour service, installs the RS and I’m 100% good to go next April. But does he cover the cost of winter vinyl wrap? I’ve read this could be $35/ft.
Finally, I’m de-stickering the boat, and I want to do this as soon as the boat hits the dealer so the stickers won’t permanently mark the gel coat. Will he allow me to do this on his marina lot?

He mentioned a few days ago I may have the boat 9/30. If that’s the case I def. want to get the 10 hours in, de sticker it, install the RS, do the 10 hour service and store it on his lot (he told me yes to the free storage, he’s not aware of all my other craziness).

So honestly I’m not crazy about the boat sitting outside in factory wrap all winter but without a truck, I’m a little stuck.
I’m also trying to balance getting a super early boat that may have sat around at the factory waiting for a windshield or similar vs waiting until winter and crossing my fingers there’s no boats available. If I owned a truck and had indoor storage, none of this would be an issue.
You exhausted? Me too.

Thoughts?

Think about it this way.......every boat he has sold over the years that people bought in the past springs were parked right where yours will be for the winter before they were bought.......I’m in michigan and Yamaha dealers will be getting boats all fall and not all of them will sell.......which means they will be stored outside until spring/summer.......

It’s my first boat (aqua patio doesn’t count) and I’m nervous :)

You got this! If they give you the deal with honoring any promotions etc. I'll buy my boat from Jim definitely! I forced myself on a cool off period by doing a refi (2.49% for the win!) so I can't buy until it closes in 45-60 days but you tell him a few others are waiting to hear back on your experience!

Awesome to hear you're going for it!

We had a long conversation this am before I left and came to the conclusion we’re not $60k boat people, we‘re $35k boat people. I’m passing on the Yamaha and renewing my original search for a sub $40k bowrider or deck boat. Since I’m in severe pain right now, I WILL install captains choice exhaust on whatever we buy without asking:)
Cheers all, I look forward to lots of pics of your 21s and I especially look forward to seeing the AR250 get some sweet surf treatment.

So we have a LOT in common......me and the wife are having the EXACT discussions right now.......I keep struggling with wanting the features of the 252SE/252XE (larger Bimini, more features than the AR) but the $75-$80k price.........wow.....

So I did some digging in the classified section on here going back pages to the years PRIOR to covid.....

A three year-old 242SE that looked mint struggled to sell for $45k (a 2016 up for sale in 2019): AND it also came with 2 years left of the YES:54290680-0E77-4C0D-953B-5D291515CFB8.png

So now I have a new plan.......I and going to wait until the 2016+ 242SE and 242X’s come down into the $35k-$45k range (I’m also interested in the Scarab 215/255’s). If it takes 1-2 years i am ok with that......I’ve been renting when I want to boat and will just continue doing so....

I stored my AR210 outside all winter last year - and that was in Northern Minnesota. Not one issue with it at all.

Just make sure it's wrapped up well - don't store it in the trees, and don't store it in long grass. Mice like to eat wires.

Bought my 2018 AR240 from Jim at the boat show. It was on his lot factory covered since September. No issues. He held it there until I picked it up on May 7th. The only thing I need to go back for is to get the remote radio control replaced as the volume knob stopped working a year ago. Hopefully they won't give me trouble to replace under warranty.

@ourlee......none of my business but you don't have a friend with an SUV or truck? I have pulled friends boats before to help them, couple of beers - all good. Are you able to rent a truck for a hours/day to get it where you want?
