We got hit with some pretty big rains yesterday out of no where and it was raining so hard I didn't even want to run out to put the Yamaha mooring cover on.

Everything got soaked including the carpet. Lesson learned if there is any rain in the forecast and it's not going to be used put thr cover and pooling poles in just in case.

So I got the boat all cleaned up this afternoon and left the carpet to air dry for a few hours but when I finished my full boat cleaning and put the carpet back in the carpet pieces were still slightly wet/damp. Not water dripping off when holding but wet enough for me to pose this question.

Is it bad to put the Yanaha mooring cover over damp carpet? I know it has vents in the premium mooring cover but will the carpet dry out under there? I could go back to the boatel tomorrow and take it off if that's best. Probably being a little too picky using the mooring cover it in an indoor boatel in the first place but just don't want water from boats being stored above mine to drip down onto my clean boat.

Appreciate your thoughts in advance.

Carpet, yuck!!! Replace it with SeaDek and you will not have this problem. I do not understand why Yamahas still ship with carpet.

On a serious note, it would be better to leave the cover off if the boat is stored indoors especially until it dries out. Cleaning up mildew is not a fun project.

@Bruce is correct. Mildew needs 3 things to grow: moisture, a food source (dirt) and stagnant air. If you remove any one of these you will avoid mildew.

No, don't do it. I did this a few weeks ago, and when I returned to my boat it smelled like @$$. I had to remove the carpet and let it air dry in the sun for a few hours. The underside of my carpet had already started to turn black from mold. The sun fixed it right up though.

Did it while slipped in Lake Cumberland after we got carpet soaked.
Highly recommend pulling carpet out to dry if you can.
It did convince my wife we need seadek as well though so maybe better to cover it up and let it mold.

I'll Add. Once those carpets get a case of the FUNK from mold/mildew, it'll never go away. Every-time our carpet got wet it smelled like mushrooms, We soaked hem in everykind of cleaner we could think of, never went away
I went the seadeck route to get rid of it.

I have a dehumidifier under my cover. It's done a great job drying the interior and an added bonus is that the boat still smells new even though it's a year old.

I went up to the Boatel today, took the cover off, cleaned and conditioned all the seats with Vinyl and Conditioner Sauce from Boat Bling and left the cover off when the put the boat back away. The carpet was mostly dry on top but alot of it was still damp on the underside of the carpet, the slick white stuff was basically still wet. Maybe I should have not buttoned the snaps?

Question should I go back again tomorrow and remove all of the carpet and just let it all air dry out at home for a few days, or do you think the underside will dry it self out in the boatel since the cover is now off of the boat and everything can breathe better?

I would pull the carpet and bring it home. Nothing between that rubber and the deck will breathe and let the water evaporate.

The top will dry, the bottom won't. When mine is wet I Drake it over a step ladder in the garage.

Yep same same...
Hang the carpet, I do the step ladder routine as well.
Careful not to fold carpet so it creases, roll it if not stored flat.

Got the carpet out this morning. What is the best way to get this light yellow marks off of the boat itself that it got from the underside of the carpet?

Also, what is the best way to get the bottom side of the carpet (slick white side) clean (has some little black and yellow stains on it).
