I have been looking to be a member of this forum who actually has a boat vs the guy who reads about all of yours, which I have been for a while. So I visit boattrader and the like waiting armed with info from this forum looking for the perfect deal to come along and I think I found it. You guys don't think $72,000 is to much of an asking price do you?

I can't believe someone has the b*lls to post a 2014 Yamaha at that price. Maybe they figure people who are comparison shopping for boats of the similar size/quality and can be fooled. But honestly, that is a rip-off. As @Julian mentioned, that is MSRP for a brand new top of the line 2017 242X. If you are ready to spend that kind of money, you can get a brand new boat with the shrink wrap still on. And probably even negotiate an extended warranty.

I just got back into boating this year and search around for leftover 2016's and worked with a few dealers to get the best price. In my opinion, you could get a brand new 2016 for $10k or more less than what you are looking for in that listing.

That's around 30k too high. Is that because it's being sold by Pop Yachts?

Somehow my smiley face didn't come through in the title . Yes I'm kidding. I damn near did a spit take when I saw it.

Thanks for linking this. I have honestly seen some hellaciously good deals on this forum and just wasn't ready to pull the trigger yet. 4 kids (9-2) and activities, etc. leave me wondering if boat ownership is better as a dream then as a reality. It's a regular conversation in our house since we both want a boat, but neither of us are sure we will have the time to fully enjoy it. So for now the plan is to casually look and if the "Too good to pass up" deal comes along we will have to seriously consider throwing caution to the wind and going for it.

Well, the good thing is Yamaha boats, if well taken care of, are extremely reliable. When I sold my 2006 AR210 a few years ago it was mostly as good as new and never had a single problem. If you are seriously considering buying, I would look at some of the used boats here or in other places. You will save a lot of money, get a great boat and can test the waters to see how much use you get out of it before spending the big bucks on something new/newer. That is what I did. Just my 2 cents.

POP Yachts just list their boats at MSRP of the newest model. Hopefully no one is stupid enough to pay anywhere close to their list prices.

Holly hell... really... what were they thinking with that price....

we bought a boat and we have three kids... we wanted to spend quality family time out having fun on our terms and not running around of sitting at the house. We bought it two years ago and have never looked back. We love it and I dont think we will ever be with out a boat again!!

Wow no this one is a hell of a deal. If I didn't have my AR I would be all over this one. Pretty much brand new for less than AR240 price. Jump all over that one.

Definitely hardest part is getting the wife on board with upgrading our '92 Celebrity. (Something about paid for vs payments or some other nonsense). I told Santa I needed a new boat this year, and mentioned that I might need a new truck too (to make @Betik proud of his last couple of months )

This is what Santa brought me. image.jpg

Apparently, my note to Santa didn't include anything about the desired scale. Lol

Upon review maybe some color in the interior, chrome rims instead of white, maybe stereo upgrade...

@BigAbe75 sounds like it is time you start sharing your concerns with your wife about the 25 year old engine you have been babying for years...and the near term extensive cost of giving her (the boat) a required second wind if you are going to keep her in "ship shape". I imagine it has wood in there somewhere and that stuff rots, you know. Because you still have it looking good today, buyers are out there; but it won't be that way much longer. Her clock is ticking.

Buying newer technology will be a MUCH more calcukated expense and logical investment than taking the ole celebrity out for yet another hard day on the water. All those newer boats (especially those fancy wake boats) are throwing out ridiculous wakes that the Celebrity just wasn't designed to handle. Does she really want to be the one on board when one gets the best of her or the engine finally gives out?

All in good fun. Not knocking your boat in any way; but thought you could use a few additional angles. Oh, if that works, good luck with the mod budget for the new one! Many of us can help you with pointers there too if you get that far. You can start justifying that by all the money these forum members saved you by teaching you how to buy it right! Save that card for the mod budget though.

Thanks for the advice. Lol She'll come around one of these days. To be honest, the smart play is still to wait a bit while finances get sorted out a bit, but dang it's tough. :)

And yes, I'm keeping a list of mods, FAQs, and other assorted ways to spend money that I've come across here.

I can say that I use st. Charles Boat and Motor all the time. I absolutely love the dealership. Hopefully you'll be able to buy a boat from them sooner than later. I've looked at that boat and it's absolutely gorgeous

I'm scared to drive out to see it in person. I've been known to have a little bit of an impulse control problem. I think she'll be keeping an eye on me if I ever try to drive the truck (instead of my commuter) to St Louis. 'Course this would be a much more informed and researched purchase than a couple of my other impulse buys in the past.

Glad to hear a positive review on the dealership. I met Jerry this past September, maybe, at the Grafton boat show and got a test ride with him in a '17 AR 240, I believe it was. That was my first ride on a jet boat. Was awesome; hole shot and acceleration sold me right away, without even getting into the other features.
