Has anyone on here purchased the JL audio Mediamaster. If so what did you think of it? Was it easy to install? Did you place it in a similar place as the old radio? What kind of boat do you have? I'd like to put it on a 212x if I get it.
Thanks

No I'm still using the connext. On the 2nd swim platform, you have to access the cup holder on the port side. Reach underneath and you will feel the controller wire that can be unplugged. All that does is to disconnect the swim platform from the system. Everything else works fine. I control my music from my watch so it's not needed at all and it's just a pain. Took me forever in how to disconnect it too. lol

I will look in the next day or so which cup holder. Now I'm thinking it's the first swim platform cup holder on the port side. lol :confused::confused::confused:

Man, that is really good to know! I think you may have just been the first to brave this. Thanks for sharing!!!

Glad to know it can be done, in case the remote (eventually) rots which seems to be more or less inevitable in that location, especially when surfing.

Here is what @Mainah said:
The head unit on connext boats is kind of like a split face unit in a car. The actual head unit is behind the helm and face is on the swim deck. Connext screen is more like a steering wheel remote if that helps think about how it all works. Unless the connection and network protocol is the same a JL remote would not work. Polk has an app that allows you to control the head unit over Bluetooth if that helps.

No sir. No brain box. So the main Polk radio behind the helm has an extension that goes all the way to the swim platform. In the manual it states this wiring is approx. 10' long. The swim platform radio wiring is approx. 2' and is just long enough to reach the cup holder side of the top swim platform. This is where it connects to the extension wire coming directly from the Polk radio behind the helm. It was a pain routing these wires. But like I said, I can't remember if I accessed it from the bottom platform or the top. Either way it's behind of those. I will confirm for everyone in the next day or so when I go back to the boat. I reached my right hand in there and was able to disconnect it with ease. They zipped tied it next to the fiberglass by the cup holder side.

I really started to look into this when my radio started to short out and seeing other people playing with the controls when i'm not paying attention. I like using the remote when I'm swimming back there or hanging out but it's a flaw you can't lock the settings. It should have the ability to lock so it can't be controlled back there. That way when I need it I can unlock it. Just stupid design and interface. Plus I keep lossing the silicone cover to it. I'm on m 3rd one now. Lol.

FWIW I saw a 2018 e series at a boat show and noticed they have swapped to Fusion for the swim deck remote at least and probably the head unit too. Still Polk db speakers so possible that they have been seeing issues with the Polk units and decided to make a change. It would seem Yamaha is listening and making improvements to future model years.

Whats i am running into is my swim deck radiokeeps rusting out. Yamaha replaced it once now ( as i type this i am hold with them trying to get it replaced again)

but i am gonna move it. I cant put it up ontje 2nd swim platform cause i have my 7.7s there. So i have to get fancy. Maybe the swim locker or something.

I think I found a picture to illustrate. Here is my "wire close call" - in the swim deck. I've used a drill/ hole saw to install swim platform speakers.

Perfect. It's right there below that hole going down to the swim controller.
