Headed there, camper, boat, and all, in a couple of weeks. Anyone explored the lake? Any cools spots to check out?

Probably my favorite lake. Always seems empty. We launched at the fontana village ramp good ramp just really long. one word of caution the shore can be extremely rocky so i wouldn't try to beach any where.P9050151.JPG

Oh I see. Nice

I was up there a few weeks ago (my home town Murphy just down the road) and the lake was very low. It has been pretty low most of the winter. I am sure the rain that just came threw helped. Check out Lake Santeetlah as it is one of my favorite up there in Graham County. About 80% of its shoreline is National Forest and is so Pristine. Serious the lake is beautiful.Very worth while to check out. There is also Cheoah Lake and Cheoah Dam where the movie Fugitive scene was filmed. Cheoah dam is the one Harrison Fords Stunt double jumped from. Are you staying at Fontana Village? The whole lake is deep and pretty to explore. As @DieselCamel and I have talked about us MT folks are always nice and always willing to tell you that cool spot to seek out.. Talk to the locals and yes the draw is real and yes we talk slow! lol Have fun! Oh and head to to Historic Tapoco Lodge just down the road and have a slice of the best pizza! While watching front and center the prettiest river you will ever see.. Trust me on this one. Yeah they have all the local beers on tap. Best place in the county for a drink and food. I will hush.http://tapocolodge.com/

Wow, thanks for all the info @Shannon Ill definitely follow your suggestion about the pizza place! We are staying at Almond Boat & RV. I'm flying blind here, but it was one of the only spots that I found that allowed a camper with access to the lake for the boat. Do you suggest lake Santeetlah over Fontana? Is the lakeside camper grounds? We could change our reservation if you think that's the better spot.

I think you will be A ok at Fontana! You are right with the camper. What I would do because of internet access and bleak at best phone reception is have a plan and good gps with addresses of where you want to head.. Just make sure and take Tapoco Lodge info down and go as you for sure thank me.. There are very few places to eat ,make sure and pack your beer and such in..Only DRY County in NC.http://www.duijournal.com/dry-county-graham-county/... Just remember cell service SUCKS!!! Also check out Deals Gap or as us locals call it The Dragon.. :) Hit me up if you have any other question but make sure and do some scouting online before you go..The place is pretty laid back!

Definitely one of my favorite lakes. Gotta imagine it's gonna be really chilly water this time of year though. We rented this floating house last time we went (with dieselcamel). Planning on going back again this summer.
