I hope they put some thrust vectors on that thing. Would be interesting to see a Navy jetboat trying to handle the low-speed steering issues.

Littoral Combat Ships are designed for shallow water, high speeds and flexible operation. I imagine the jets allowed for a deeper hull than a convential drive train while maintaining the same draft.
 
Returning from the 2014 Bimini trip, we followed the USNS Spearhead into Port Everglades. This is a 4 engine 4 jet catamaran with a top speed of 49 mph.
