LED dimmer not working right

I installed an LED rotary dimmer for my LED speaker rings this year. Today it would only work on it's highest setting. As soon as you turned the knob to a lower setting they would go out completely until you brought them back to the highest setting.

If it was a loose wire I would think it would have issues at all dimmer settings, no? I'm thinking maybe it's a faulty switch? Any thoughts?
 
Most potentiometers don't play well with LED's. The controllers that are sold dim entirely differently and are cheap, like $5 to $10 on Ebay. If it worked at one time, I suspect it is a fault in the potentiometer. A controller will give you stepped settings but will be much more stable long term.
 
I agree with @txav8r about a possible faulty switch. Another issue is, You can't mix leds with regular incandescent bulbs on a dimmer circuit as they work properly.
